Country Concessions – Quilters Heaven Winter 2013 Class Schedule We asked for input on our class offerings in the fall. A lot of you emailed us your requests and we have done our best to listen to all that you have requested and even advised. The majority of you asked for more technique classes and we have a great line up of those for you. Thank you for your input! More of our classes this time are about learning a new technique as mentioned so you may not necessarily end up with a finished project. You will have a new skill(s) though, that you can transfer to some of your not quite finished projects that have been simmering on the back burner for a while. You may even want to start a new project and put your new knowledge to good use. It’s up to you. All classes must be paid in full at the time of registration. If you register for a class and have to cancel out you will be given a store credit. We appreciate as much notice as possible and 3 days minimum. You will not be considered registered in the class until you have paid. If we have to cancel a class due to low enrolment you will receive your class fees back. We will call three days prior to class to confirm or cancel the class if necessary. With that in mind, browse through our classes for the Winter and be sure to set some time aside for just you. Whether you are learning a new technique, brushing up on an old one or just enjoying some sewing time for yourself, a class is a great way to relax, unwind and enjoy!

Some Rules Class space is limited and is on a first come first served basis. All classes and kit fees must be paid in full upon registration. Cancelling out of a class must be done 3 days in advance in order for class fees to be put towards another class or as a store credit. Any time after that, they will not be refunded. Although we don’t insist you purchase your supplies at the shop we do appreciate it. Products bought in the store for class use are subject to a 20% discount!

This applies to items that are

specifically for the particular class that you are signed up for. Beginner classes would cover a mat, cutter, rulers etc.

Non-

beginner class items that qualify for the discount would be fabric, patterns, books or a specific ruler used for a specific class. Our Tea and Company and Quilt Workshop do not qualify for the 20% discount. Free class participants do not receive a discount.

Pfaff Beginner Embroidery Club – Christie Davidson This is a new class/club that we started in the fall. There are quite a number of people out there with embroidery machines that don’t quite know how to get started. We are going to start with the very basics and slowly move our way up. It is going to get you understanding and using that machine of yours. There are an endless number of creative projects out there and we will get you started on some of the possibilities. You do need to have a Pfaff embroidery machine, but it doesn’t matter if it is old or new. First 3 months will focus on stabilizing, hooping and the basics of embroidering of woven fabrics, knit, fabric, towels. Also how to do applique, cut work and lace.

1st Saturday of the month $20 - 10am – 4pm Addendum – This class is awesome! Shannon has taken it twice now and she cannot get enough, she wishes it was every single week! It is so fun! If you are on the fence about coming, hop off, you will be so happy you did. If you are even thinking about buying an embroidery machine, come on in and talk to us. Embroidery Machines are the bee’s knees!!!!!

Machine Quilting in Sections – Martha Schellingerhoud In this work shop you will be learning the technique of quilting in sections by trying it yourself. This amazing technique will allow you to quilt large quilts on a regular household sewing machine. Three variations will be taught. Two of these techniques are done so that the finished quilt has no visible sign of being quilted in sections. Various quilts that have been quilted with these methods will be available to see. Other places that these applications could be used will also be explored. Handout for further reference will be available. It is my hope that this workshop will be both fun and informative for you. Knowledge of machine quilting is a pre-requisite. Supplies To save time in class there is some homework. Please ensure you obtain the complete supply list when you register for class. The fabric does not have to match. Sewing machine with a regular foot, walking foot and free motion foot, and any necessary tools needed to change the feet of your machine. Scrap Squad (formerly Breakfast Club) – Sue Dimmell This club was originally called Breakfast Club. We started off serving a hefty breakfast and then everyone got down to sewing with 2 ½” strips and a pattern that was somewhat of a mystery to them. The group and the day have slowly evolved. We have much lighter fare for you to eat so you are not weighted down so much and you can work on strips if you want or you can work on something totally on your own or sometimes the group decides they want Sue to show them something new and fun for the day. It is a great day to get some sewing done. New comers always welcome.

International Mystery Club – Arlene Nicholas Wouldn't you rather make a quilt each month instead of a block a month? With our International Mystery Series class, you can do just that as you make quilts from around the globe! The mystery quilt format keeps the program fun and interesting. We are offering three colour ways each month. Every month there is a recipe that ties in with the featured country. The mystery quilts are designed to be able to get the top done in a day! This is an all inclusive trip so all you need to do is pack your bag, sewing bag that is and we’ll do the rest. Your total voyage package includes your personal tour guide, Arlene Nicholas, travel vouchers in the form of patterns, custom fabrics and lodging in our classroom! We cannot show you a picture of these quilts because that would spoil the mystery!! This is one of those classes that is more of a club, but that doesn’t mean you have to come each month. You are free to sign up for each one or just the ones that work for you. You pick! Cost is $75 (remember that is fabric included). Class is from 10:00am to 4:00pm. We have had quite a few of the International Mystery Clubs now and they are a great class. Everyone seems to love the quilt tops that they made and had a lot of fun with it being a mystery. Sign up for one and have some fun yourself. 2nd Sunday of the month January - 13th - China February - 10th - Mexico March – 10th – New World Tour Starts – be sure to get your passport for the new trip! It is a great time to enter into the world of Bargello with no trouble at all. You will be piecing your own Bargello in no time, like a pro. There are two patterns that will work for this class – Bargello in Spring and Bargello in Autumn. You may choose either.

Storm at Sea – Sue Dimmell Storm at Sea has the appearance of curved piecing but it is just an illusion! The movement of the design is created by combining diamond rectangles and square in a square blocks. Straight forward piecing techniques and specialty rulers make this a very easy and fun quilt to make. We will be finished the blocks by the end of class and hopefully will have most if not all of the blocks put together. Size is 46 by 72. It could be made bigger but will need more fabric than what is listed.

Spring Bouquet – Block of the Month

This is absolutely the easiest applique quilt you will ever do! The flowers, leaves and stems come precut and prefused. All you have to do is put them in place and fuse them down. There is a gorgeous thread pack that you can buy as well to applique your garden in place. The pattern is from Laundry Basket Quilts and it uses Over the Rainbow Batiks. This is a 10 month program that we have ordered for a second time. It was so popular and sold out so quickly the first time we just had to give more of you an opportunity to enjoy it. It is $45.98 per month. We will be getting the new shipment in February.

Bunny Hill Designs – Pumpkinville Block of the Month

Glacier Stars – Carol Mason

A beautiful lone star inspired pattern by Judy Niemyer. It is nothing other than exquisite. You don’t need to be an expert either, this is a perfect beginner pattern. You do need basic quilting knowledge but that is it! It is set up as an in class 6 part technique of the month, with one type of block each month. It is 60" Square but you can purchase additional papers to extend it to a queen size. You come to class once a month, the 4th Wednesday of the month. That is 6 classes, so it does seem a little pricey at first, but totally worth it.

4th Wednesday of each month 10am – 4pm– starts March 27th (over 200 hours of class time and instruction) This class has been broken into 2 installments - $139.98 per 3 months, which includes your pattern ($59.98 value). If you pay both installments at once you can save $46.98!
