JOLLY SHELF SITTERS Finished Size: 7¾" (19.5 cm) tall
MATERIALS
Worsted Weight Yarn [3 ounces, 170 yards (90 grams, 155 meters) per skein]: Red - 1 skein White - 1 skein Peach - 1 skein Black - 1 skein Gold - small amount Crochet hook, size G (4.00 mm) or size needed for gauge Zip-top sandwich bag - 1 for each Sitter Uncooked rice or beans - 1 cup for each Sitter Polyester fiberfill Yarn needle Straight pins 7 mm Wiggle eyes - 2 for each Sitter Glue
Rnd 12: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc, hdc decrease, (hdc in next 2 hdc, hdc decrease) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 33 hdc. Rnds 13 and 14: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc and in each hdc around; join with slip st to first hdc. Put rice or beans in sandwich bag; close top and place in Body. Add polyester fiberfill around sandwich bag. Rnd 15: Ch 2, hdc decrease, (hdc in next hdc, hdc decrease) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 22 hdc. Rnd 16: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc and in each hdc around; join with slip st to first hdc. Rnd 17: Ch 2, (hdc decrease, hdc in next hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc, finish off: 15 hdc. Stuff Body lightly with polyester fiberfill. HEAD Rnd 1: With right side facing, join Peach with slip st in same st as joining; ch 2, 2 hdc in each of next 2 hdc, (hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in each of next 2 hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 25 hdc.

MRS. SANTA
BODY Rnd 1 (Right side): With Red, ch 3, 9 hdc in third ch from hook (2 skipped chs count as first hdc, now and throughout); join with slip st to first hdc: 10 hdc. Note: Mark last round as right side. Rnd 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc, now and throughout), hdc in same st, 2 hdc in next hdc and in each hdc around; join with slip st to first hdc: 20 hdc.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 30 hdc.
Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next 2 hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 2 hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 40 hdc. Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next 3 hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc) 5 times, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 54 hdc. Rnds 6-9: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc and in each hdc around; join with slip st to first hdc. To hdc decrease (uses next 2 hdc), H YO, insert hook in next hdc, YO and pull up a loop; repeat from H once more, YO and draw through all 5 loops on hook (counts as one hdc). Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc decrease, (hdc in next hdc, hdc decrease) around; join with slip st to first hdc changing to White; cut Black: 8 hdc. To work Cluster, H YO, insert hook in st indicated, YO and pull up a loop; repeat from H once more, YO and draw through all 5 loops on hook. Rnd 5: Ch 1, hdc in same st, work Cluster in next hdc and in each hdc around; join with slip st to first hdc. Rnd 6: Ch 1, hdc in same st, work Cluster in next Cluster and in each Cluster around; join with slip st to first hdc changing to Red; cut White. Rnds 7-14: Ch 2, hdc in next st and in each st around; join with slip st to first hdc. Finish off leaving a long end for sewing. Stuff each Arm lightly with polyester fiberfill.
LEG (Make 2) Rnd 1 (Right side): With Black, ch 3, 7 hdc in third ch from hook; join with slip st to first hdc: 8 hdc. Rnds 2 and 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 18 hdc. Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc, (hdc decrease, hdc in next 2 hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 14 hdc. Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc decrease, (hdc in next hdc, hdc decrease) 3 times, hdc in last 2 hdc; join with slip st to first hdc changing to Soft White; cut Black: 10 hdc. Rnd 6: Ch 1, hdc in same st, work Cluster in next hdc and in each hdc around; join with slip st to first hdc. Rnd 7: Ch 1, hdc in same st, work Cluster in next Cluster and in each Cluster around; join with slip st to first hdc changing to Red; cut White. Rnds 8-17: Ch 2, hdc in next st and in each st around; join with slip st to first hdc. Finish off leaving a long end for sewing. Stuff each Leg lightly with polyester fiberfill. Using photo as a guide for placement, sew Arms and Legs to Body. APRON Skirt With White, ch 7 loosely. Row 1 (Right side): Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across: 6 sc.

Back Tie: With right side facing and working behind Edging, join Soft White with slip st in one end of Row 1 on Top; ch 28; being careful not to twist ch, slip st in opposite end of same row; finish off leaving a long end for sewing.
CAP Rnd 1 (Right side): With Red, ch 3, 7 hdc in third ch from hook; join with slip st to first hdc: 8 hdc. Note: Mark last round as right side. Rnds 2-4: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 27 hdc. Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next 2 hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 2 hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 36 hdc. HAIR With White, ch 55 loosely; work Loop St in second ch from hook (Figs. 7a-c, page 6) and in each ch across; finish off leaving a long end for sewing. TRIM With White, ch 47 loosely; work Cluster in back ridge of third ch from hook and each ch across; finish off leaving a long end for sewing. FINISHING Using photo as a guide for placement: Slip Apron on Body and tack in place along Back Tie. Tie Neck Ties in a bow. Sew Cap to Head. Sew Hair to Head at base of Rnd 9 on Cap, overlapping ends to form two rows of loops at back. Pin Trim to Rnd 6 of Body with ends at back; sew Trim in place. With Peach, add satin stitches (Fig. 6, page 5) for nose. With White, add straight stitches for eyebrows (Fig. 6, page 2). With Red, add straight stitches for mouth. Glue eyes to Head.
MR. SANTA
Work and assemble Body, Head, Arms, and Legs in same manner as Mrs. Santa. TRIM With White, ch 85 loosely; work Cluster in back ridge of third ch from hook and each ch across; finish off leaving a long end for sewing. BELT With Black, ch 51 loosely; hdc in back ridge of third ch from hook and each ch across; finish off leaving a long end for sewing. CAP Rnd 1 (Right side): With Red, ch 3, 2 hdc in third ch from hook; join with slip st to first hdc: 3 hdc. Note: Mark last round as right side.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each of last 2 hdc; join with slip st to first hdc: 6 hdc.
Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next 3 hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc) twice; join with slip st to first hdc: 15 hdc. Rnd 6: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next 2 hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 2 hdc) around; join with slip st to first hdc: 20 hdc. With White, make a small pom-pom; sew to tip of Cap. BEARD With White, ch 22 loosely; work Loop St in second ch from hook (Figs. 7a-c, page 6) and in each ch across to last ch, work 3 Loop Sts in last ch; working in free loops of beginning ch, work 2 Loop Sts in next ch and in each ch across; finish off leaving a long end for sewing. FINISHING Using photo as a guide for placement: Beginning at center front neck, pin Trim to Body, wrapping Trim around neck to meet beginning end. Pin approximately 3" of Trim down center front. Pin remaining length of Trim around Body, meeting at center front and tucking end under. With long end, sew Trim in place. Sew Belt to Body, tacking ends together at back. With Gold and using straight stitch (Fig. 5, page 5), add buckle to Belt. Sew Beard and Cap to Head. With Peach, add satin stitches (Fig. 6, page 5) for nose. With White, add straight stitches for eyebrows and moustache. Glue eyes to Head.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc) twice; join with slip st to first hdc: 9 hdc. Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st and in next 2 hdc, (2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 2 hdc) twice; join with slip st to first hdc: 12 hdc.

CHANGING COLORS
Work the last stitch to within one step of completion, hook new yarn (Fig. 4), and draw through all loops on hook. Fig. 4
STRAIGHT STITCH
GAUGE
Exact gauge is essential for proper size. Before beginning your project, make a sample swatch in the stitch, yarn, and hook specified in the individual instructions. After completing the swatch, measure it, counting your stitches and rounds carefully. If your swatch is larger or smaller than specified, make another swatch, changing hook size to get the correct gauge. Keep trying until you find the size hook that will give you the specified gauge.
STRAIGHT STITCH
Straight stitch is just what the name implies, a single, straight stitch. Bring needle up at 1 and go down at 2 (Fig. 5). Fig. 5
JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with a slip knot on hook. Insert hook in stitch or space indicated, YO and pull up a loop, YO and draw through both -3 loops on hook. WORKING INTO CHAIN FORMERLY BACK RIDGE
