What’s This Pattern Saying? ...Moving Beyond the Basics of Knitting

Confused by pattern instructions and abbreviations? Not sure what the pattern is telling you to do next? Let us explain simple instructions and abbreviations that sometimes leave you stranded in the middle of a project. Learn to understand the basics of pattern reading, how to understand asterisks, brackets, etc., and how to discern what the pattern isn’t telling you and assumes you already know. Knitting Socks on a Single Circular Needle from the Top Down Learn how to knit a basic chunky sock from the top down using only one circular needle. You will learn how a sock is constructed, and how to measure to determine the correct sizing. Each class will focus on a particular section of the sock: Part 1-The cast-on and leg of the sock. Part 2-The heel flap, turning the heel, and the sock gusset. Part 3- Knitting the toe and finishing the sock. Class participants should be able to cast on, and knit and purl. Specific techniques such as decreasing and short rows will be shown in class. $69 Materials- Size 8 circular needles 32”-40” length and yarn are not included. Stitch markers, tapestry needle, measuring tape, and scissors. LEARN OR SWITCH TO CONTINENTAL KNITTING Experienced knitters, as well as people who have never held a knitting needle before, can benefit from learning this easy method of Continental knitting using the exclusive techniques shown in Leslye’s DVD, The Absolute Best Way to Learn How to Knit (shown at right). Leslye has been teaching these techniques for many years to sold-out classes at major knitting seminars throughout the country. We offer her class by appointment, so you can easily fit the class into your schedule. We can also accommodate small group classes. This easy, ergonomic method of knitting helps to limit motion, thereby reducing stress on hands, wrists, and necks. Using this method, seed stitch and ribbing can be knitted with a fluid, easy motion, making your projects faster and more enjoyable. Knit These Easy Handwarmers Using the Magic Loop Method CLASS REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION POLICY

You may register for class in person, by phone (410-517-1020), mail, or on our website (www.woolstock.com). Reserve your class space with payment in advance. Space can be limited and classes can fill up early, so you may miss out on attending if you do not sign up early. Full refund cancellations will be accepted up to one week before class begins (special events and multi-session classes may have a different cancellation policy) so that we may contact those on our waiting list. Store credits, less a $5.00 handling fee will be given for cancellations less than one week prior to class. In the event that a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, instructor illness, etc., the class will be re-scheduled, when possible, or full refunds will be given. Supplies are not included in classes unless otherwise stated. We respectfully request that yarn and supplies used for classes should be purchased from A Knit & Sew Studio unless provided by the instructor.

She is fun, friendly, funny, and filled with great techniques and tricks to make your knitting knowledge and pleasure soar. (See classes below) Instead of going to the big shows to see the knitting stars enduring the travel, food, and hotel costs, we bring the star to you here in our new location at Glyndon. Color Knitting the Easy Way (Saturday PM, 3 hours)

Do you like the look of intricate colorwork but hate the thought of all those bobbins and tangled up yarns? In this workshop, learn the in’s and out’s of this deceptively easy technique.

Ha! Fooled You! (Sunday AM), 3 hours)

Explore interesting stitch patterns that fool the eye. In class,you’ll learn how to create huge embossed cables that seem to sit on top of the fabric—with no cabling involved! Also, learn to knit beautiful faux fair-isle patterns using (yes) just one color per row. And, if you’ve always wanted to play with mitered squares but hate the idea of all those pesky yarn tails, come and learn an easy way to make faux ones using simple slip stitches.

Stashbuster Magic (Sunday PM, 3 hours)

Got yarn? Transform even your tiniest bits and pieces into a beautiful, one-ofa-kind jacket! In this hands-on workshop, learn designer secrets for creating and using a magic ball of yarn while knitting a mini version of this onepiece wonder. Best of all, no one will ever suspect it was crafted from leftovers! Magic, indeed. (NOTE: Students must be proficient knitting in the round on dpn’s, magic loop or with two circs with as few as 8 sts!) We will be happy to offer a technique mini-session if you need to learn magic loop prior to class. Register soon as we have limited space. As many of you know, for over 20 years, our owner, Leslye Solomon has taught sold-out classes to thousands of knitters throughout the country at major knitting events like Stitches and Vogue Knitting Live. We have the luxury of having her expertise available here in the shop, and would like to offer some of her most popular classes in our schedule, as well.
