Owned 25 points and 19 rebounds against Metro State shooting 46.7 from the field and a perfect 100 percent from long distance after draining 6-6 from 3-pt range.

Katie Nehf CSU-Pueblo Junior, Post, 6-2 Broomfield, Colo. / Broomfield HS Nehf was the team’s defensive stalwart in wins over Adams State (77-44) and Fort Lewis (78-73) to open up the conference season. She averaged 8.0 RPG (5.5 defensive RPG) over the two games and added a total of four steals and nine blocks on the weekend. Her five blocks against Fort Lewis set a careerhigh and marked the second-most in a game in school history.

2013-14 RMAC Women’s Basketball News & Notes Adams State University (4-3, 0-2 RMAC) Offense: Emilie Klint (Freshman, Guard, 5-8, Frederiksberg, Denmark / Falkoner Gaarden Gyminasium) Emilie scored a combined 29 points to begin RMAC play. She scored a career high against Colorado Springs with 19 points. Black Hills State University (1-4, 0-2 RMAC) Team Notes: The Western State Colorado University Mountaineers used a strong first half of play to hold on for the 1-point victory over the Yellow Jackets on Friday night, December 6th. BHSU’s best stat-line of the night came from the free-throw line as they missed just two all night after going 12-of-14 (85.7%) as a team. The nation’s fifth-ranked team, the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks, were back at it versus the Yellow Jackets on Saturday night. While the Jackets improved in the second half to score 30 points to CMU’s 39, it was the play of the Mavericks’ Sharaya Selsor and Taylor Rock who combined for 42 points to help their team to win by a margin of 29 points. The Yellow Jackets shot almost 36-percent as a team as they hit 20-of-56 shots and for the second straight game, just three 3-point shots. The next game for the Yellow Jackets will be back at the Young Center Saturday night, December 14, versus Colorado Christian at 4 p.m. Chadron State College (0-6, 0-2 RMAC) Team Notes: The fifth-ranked Colorado Mesa University team had an 86-41 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State Friday at Brownson Arena. Chadron State’s Kattie Ranta scored 16 points and hauled in 12 rebounds to record her fourth-straight double double to lead the Eagles, now 0-5. Also for Chadron State, Kayli Rageth added 10 points and eight boards and Dallas Shaw chipped in five points and eight rebounds. Western State withstood a furious Chadron State rally in their 79-77 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Saturday night. The Eagles trailed Western State 63-53 with nine and a minutes to play but they outscored the Mountaineers 24-16 until the final buzzer. The Eagles started their late scoring surge when Kattie Ranta, who scored 22 points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds, netted six straight points. Next for the Eagles, they will be hosting Colorado Mines December 14 at 4 p.m. and Colorado Christian December 15 at 2 p.m. Colorado Christian University (3-3, 1-1 RMAC) Team Notes: Colorado Christian opened their 2013-14 RMAC season with a bang Friday, defeating a visiting – and previously unbeaten – New Mexico Highlands team at the Event Center. The Cougars advanced to 3-3 on the year with the 95-65 win. The Cougars lost their first RMAC game of the year Saturday, falling 95-67 to a visiting Western New Mexico squad. It was a frustrating night for the Cougars, who struggled to stop a hotshooting Mustang team. Colorado Christian will hit the road this week for a pair of RMAC contests at Black Hills State and Chadron. Colorado Mesa University (6-0, 2-0 RMAC) Offense: Sharaya Selsor (Senior, Guard, 5-9, Glenwood Springs, Colo./Glenwood Springs HS) Selsor went for a career-high 40 against Chadron State, breaking her own school record set earlier this season. She averaged 31 points and 5.5 assists in the two games over the weekend. Defense: Christen Lopez (Senior, Guard, 5-4, West Jordan, Utah / Kearns HS/ Miles CC) Lopez averaged 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game against Chadron State and Black Hills State. Also, she added 10 assists. Colorado School of Mines (2-4, 1-1 RMAC) Offense: Courtney Gallo (Senior, Guard, 5-8, Lone Tree, Colo. / Chaparral HS) Gallo went for 16.0 points per game in the Orediggers 1-1 RMAC-opening weekend, finishing 12-of-21 (.571) and 5-of-12 (.417) on the perimeter with 11 rebounds and four assists. She tallied a game- and collegiate-high 22 points Friday against Western New Mexico, including 16 in the decisive second, hitting 7-of-12 and career-best five three-pointers on eight looks with a season-high seven rebounds and three assists. Gallo scored double figures for the fourth straight game and fifth time in six games this season with 10 Saturday versus New Mexico Highlands. Defense: Katie Clements (Senior, Guard, 5-8, Thornton, Colo. / Horizon HS) Clements averaged 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and team-bests of 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals in two starts at her guard position over the weekend. Clements finished with the team’s third-most defensive rebounds, collecting four each game. She is currently second on Mines and top-20 in the RMAC in steals (9) and assists (14), and sits third with 4.5 rebounds per contest. Team Notes: Mines split the final two games of its four-game home swing, holding off Western New Mexico 84-78 in its RMAC-opener Friday, before getting tripped up 65-59 by New Mexico Highlands on Saturday. The women shot season-bests of 50.8 percent (31-of-61), 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from three and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) at the free throw line en route to Friday’s season-high point total. The 84 points were the most since an 87-73 win at Alaska Fairbanks on Nov. 10, 2012, while the 12 three-point field goals were the most in the previous 12 seasons. Senior Courtney Gallo led the women with 16.0 points per game, shooting 12-of-21 (.571) and 5-of-12 (.417) on the perimeter. She had a career-high 22 points Friday against Western New Mexico, including 16 in the decisive second, hitting 7-of-12 and collegiate-best 5-of-8 triples with a seasonbest seven rebounds. Junior Sam Rusk averaged 13.5 per game, scoring in double figures both nights with a career-high 15 against WNMU and team-high 12 versus NMHU. Freshman Laura Tyree added 11.5 per game, highlighted by season-highs of 18 and six assists Friday, and senior Tory Langas tallied 11.0 on a team-best 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the floor. Senior Allie Grazulis had 7.5 points and 9.5 rebounds and accounted for 11 of the team’s season-best 45 rebounds Saturday. Fourth in the RMAC in rebounding at 8.5 per contest, Grazulis has collected 10 or more boards twice in the last three games, including a season-high 13 against Cameron on Nov. 30.

2013-14 RMAC Women’s Basketball News & Notes Colorado State University - Pueblo (5-3, 2-0 RMAC) Offense: Katie Nehf (Junior, Post, 6-2, Broomfield Colo./ Broomfield HS) Nehf Averaged 16.0 PPG, turning in incredibly consistent performances as CSU-Pueblo won its first two conference games on the road over Adams State (77-44) and Fort Lewis (78-73). Scored 15 points with seven rebounds versus Adams State before bettering that effort versus Fort Lewis with 17 points and nine boards. She added five total assists on the weekend, as well. Defense: Katie Nehf (Junior, Post, 6-2, Broomfield Colo./ Broomfield HS) RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Fort Lewis College (4-2, 1-1 RMAC) Offense: Mary Brinton (Sophomore, Forward, 6-1, Pagosa Springs, Colo. / Pagosa Springs HS) Brinton came off the bench to block five shots and grab three steals in the Skyhawks home split. Friday in a win over UC-Colorado Springs, she blocked three shots, stole the ball twice and pulled down four rebounds (all defensive) while netting six points. On Saturday against CSU-Pueblo, she pulled down five rebounds (four defensive) and blocked two shots while netting 10 points. In six games this season, she is averaging 9 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game. She ranks second in the conference in blocked shots with 10. Defense: Ashley Kuchar (Senior, Guard, 5-8 , Provo, Utah / Provo HS) Kuchar averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in a home split against UC-Colorado Springs and CSU-Pueblo. In a win Friday against UCCS, she scored a team high 24 points while dishing out seven assists and grabbing five rebounds. She made 7-11 field goals and 4-7 three points field goals in the win. The next night in a loss to CSUP, Kuchar totaled 15 points, five asssists and three steals. In six games this season, she leads the team with 15.5 points per game and 10 steals, and ranks second in assists with 25. She is netted 44 percent in field goals (33-75) and 40.5 percent from three-point range (15-of-37). Metropolitan State University of Denver (1-4, 0-1 RMAC) Team Notes: Metro State blew a 14-point second-half lead in a 61-54 loss at Regis on Saturday in the team’s RMAC opener. The Roadrunners shot just 25.7 percent in the second half. Cassie Lambrecht led the team with 15 points and Fawn Brady had 11 with seven rebounds. Upcoming matches for the Roadrunners will both be at home against UC-Colo. Springs December 13, at 5 p.m. and CSU-Pueblo December 14th, at 5 p.m. New Mexico Highlands University (4-1, 1-1 RMAC) Offense: China Smith (Senior, Post, 6-1, Los Angeles, Calif. / Cal State Northridge) Smith recorded her second double-double of the season on Friday night against Colorado Christian with 24 points and 13 rebounds, including 13 points and seven rebounds in the first half alone. On Saturday against Colorado Mines, she added eight points and six rebounds. She continues to lead the conference in rebounds per game (12.8) and offensive rebounds per game (6.8). Smith is only one of two players in the conference averaging a double-double for the season. Regis University (3-2, 1-0 RMAC) Offense: Tae’lor Purdy (Senior, Forward, 5-10, Agate, Colo. / Deer Trail HS) RMAC Offensive Player of the Week Defense: Tae’lor Purdy (Senior, Forward, 5-10, Agate, Colo. / Deer Trail HS) Opened RMAC play with her fourth double-double of the season (in Regis five total game so far). Owned 25 points and 19 rebounds against Metro State shooting 46.7 from the field and a perfect 100 percent from long distance after draining 6-6 from 3-pt range. 15 of her 19 rebounds were defensive. University of Colorado Colorado Springs (2-4, 1-1 RMAC) Offense: Abby Kirchoff (Junior, Guard, 5-11, Barrington, Ill./Barrington HS) Kirchoff averaged 27.5 points for the Mountain Lions during a 1-1 weekend to open the RMAC season. She surpassed 900 career points against Adams State to become the ninth Mountain Lion in program history with 900 points. Also, Kirchoff matched her season-high with 28 points against the Grizzlies by shotting 57 percent (16-of-28) from the field and 73 percent (8-of-11) from the three-point line. She is second in the RMAC in scoring, three-point percentage, free throw percentage; third in field goal percentage; and sixth in assists. Kirchoff has scored at least 20 points in the last four games and hasn’t missed a free throw since the 8:23 mark in the second half against Minnesota State (Nov. 23), a streak of 20 consecutive free throws. Defense: Sam Patterson (Junior, Forward/Center, 6-1, Peyton, Colo./ Peyton HS) Patterson averaged 8.0 total rebounds and 6.5 defensive rebounds last weekend as UCCS went 1-1 to open the RMAC season She led the Mountain Lion rebounding effort in both nights and brought down a season-high 10 rebounds against Fort Lewis on Friday night. Patterson is third in conference-only statistics for defensive rebounds per game. She made two steals within 30 seconds against Adams State last Saturday night, both of which resulted in points for the Mountain Lions on the following possessions.

2013-14 RMAC Women’s Basketball News & Notes Western New Mexico University (4-3, 1-1 RMAC) Offense: Ashley Mitchell (Junior, Guard, 5-10, Fort Defiance, Ariz./ Window Rock HS/ Cochise College) Mitchell continued her hot shooting to start the season firing a blistering 57.7 percent from the field and an even better 64.3 from three-point range. She had a season-high 27 points in a win over Colorado Christian in which she made 9-of-14 from the field and 6-of-8 from downtown. The night before against Colorado Mines she posted 17 points, making 50 percent of her shots from the field and from three. She also added four rebounds, nine assists and four steals in the two contests. Defense: Nalani Hernandez (Junior, Guard/Forward, 5-9, Tucson, Ariz./ Tucson HS/ Southern Oregon University) Hernandez cleaned the glass in both nights as she had 21 rebounds in the two games. She had a high of 13, nine defensive, in a win over Colorado Christian. The night before she had eight boards, with six offensive. She also added seven steals and a block, to go along with five assists and 26 points. She had a double-double against the Cougars with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Western State Colorado University (2-4, 2-0 RMAC) Team Notes: The Western State Mountaineers won the first two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games of the season over the weekend in Gunnison. The Mountaineers won both games in magnificent fashion with a one-point victory over Black Hills State on Friday and a two-point victory over Chadron State Saturday. Western walked off in dramatic fashion Saturday night when Jade McIntosh hit a jumper with under 10 seconds remaining in the game to win 79-77 over Chadron State. The Mountaineers will continue their season over weekend when they travel to New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico University.

2013 RMAC Women’s Basketball Preseason Players of the Year



Preseason Player of the Year Abby Kirchoff UC-Colorado Springs Junior, Guard, 5-11 Barrington, Ill./Barrington HS Kirchoff was named to the 2012-13 All-RMAC First Team. She averaged 14.1 points and shot 41.7% from the three-point line. The Barrington, Ill., native ranked in the top five in the RMAC for three-point percentage, free-throw percentage and steals. She was No. 22 in NCAA Division II last season in field goal percentage. Kirchoff scored 20-plus points in three games and had a season-high 25 points against Fort Lewis (11/30). She finished ninth in the conference in scoring.

Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Gillian Foster Colorado Christian Senior, Center, 6-3 Norman, Okla./Homeschool Foster is second in CCU History with 77 career blocks. Her 2012-13 season block total of 45 is second best in the Cougar record books for a single season. She broke a Colorado Christian single game record on Feb. 23, 2012 with an eight-block performance against New Mexico Highlands. Foster is the 2012-13 RMAC Honor Student Athlete for CCU and was on the 2011-12 and 2012-13 RMAC All-Academic Teams.
