RMAC Men’s Basketball News & Notes New Mexico Highlands University (8-6, 5-5 RMAC) Offense: Stuart Sullivan (Senior, Guard, 6-9, 189, Red Oak, Okla./Hutchinson CC) Sullivan led the team with 32 points this weekend, including hitting an outstanding 8-15 (53.3 percent) mark from beyond the arc. He also had four assists and two steals against no turnovers in the Cowboys 90-87 win against Adams State. His lone steal of the game against the Grizzlies came with about two minutes left in the second half, when he knocked the ball out and quickly passed to teammate Dom Baca for the fast break lay-up to cut the deficit to one, which stood at seven points just 45 seconds earlier. While 0-3 in the first half against Adams State, Sullivan was 2-3 in the second half from beyond the arc to help the Cowboys erase a 13-point deficit. He was also potent from the charity stripe, hitting 6-7 (85.7 percent) on the weekend, including a perfect 6-6 mark against the Grizzlies alone. Defense: Stargell Love (Senior, Guard, 6-3, 168, Lumberton, N.C./Baylor) Love’s defense was a major catalyst on the weekend, especially in the Cowboys 90-87, come-from-behind win over Adams State. He had only one steal in the second half against the Grizzlies, but it proved to be pivotal in the closing moments. With Highlands having scored five-straight points and clinging to a one-point lead with seven seconds left, Love stripped the ball and was fouled with one second left. He made both free throws as Adams State could not even get off a final shot. He also was a part of two momentum alley-oops in the first half. He recorded an assist on both, the second coming off a steal. Love reached double-digits in both games this weekend and finished with 29 points, 11 assists, nine boards and eight steals. He went 10-17 (58.8 percent) from the field, including hitting his only three-pointer on the weekend, and 8-10 (80 percent) from the charity stripe. He has scored at least 20 points in every game of the 2014 year and is the leader on the Mountain Lion offense that is on pace to break the team program record for points per game by more than three points. White is second in the RMAC in assists, third in blocked shots, sixth in scoring, seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio and 10th in field goal percentage. Defense: Derrick White (Sophomore, Guard, 6-5, 165, Parker, Colo./Legend HS) White averaged seven rebounds and two assists per game to lead the UCCS defense in a 1-1 road trip last weekend.
