10 And Under Committee Meeting Minutes – April 5, 2012 Conference Call NOTE: All minutes are final after approval by the committee and all committee decisions are subject to final approval by the Board. Committee Members Present: Nigel Pugh (chair), Bill Weber, Andrea Barnes, Belinda Tsao Committee Members Absent: Nigel O’Rourke, Todd Dissly, and Patrick Rutz Staff Members Present: Summer Verhoeven, Jennifer Pitzen The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by Nigel Pugh. 1. Approval of Committee Minutes The following motion was duly made and seconded: RESOLVED, that the minutes of the March 7, 2012 meeting be approved. The motion was approved by a vote of 4 in favor, 0 opposed, and no abstentions. 2. Future Tennis Champions Tournaments - FTC (Regional and Invitational) The committee reviewed the procedures and guidelines for the Regional Future Tennis Champions tournaments. It was established that there will be two seasons of RFTC events. The first season will be March, April, and May. The second season will be September, October, and November. The goals of these seasons are to have four Regional events and an end of the season Invitational tournament. Having these seasons in place will allow the committee to be able to provide team based programming year round. 3. TAUT Orange Ball Sanction Tournament Rules The following motion was duly made and seconded that the following rules for Orange Ball tournaments be approved.
Orange Ball Tournaments. The court shall be a 60’ foot court (as described in Friend at Court) and shall use a stage 2 orange ball of any composition. Tournaments shall be sanctioned as one level and are co-ed. a. Sanction Periods and Draw Formats. Draws shall be one of the following formats: • Round Robin that is scheduled so as to complete all matches in a division on one day in a minimum of a 3-hour timeframe and in no more one 4-hour period of time. The amount of play will be determined by the tournament director based on the number of applicants accepted. • Multiple concurrent Round Robins with the best finishers from each Round Robin competing in one or more playoff matches. This format may be schedule on one day in a minimum of a 3-hour timeframe and in no more than one 4-hour period of time or the playoff matches may be scheduled on a second day. The amount of play will be determined by the tournament director based on the number of applicants accepted.
• Compass Draw that is scheduled so as to complete all matches in a division on one day in a minimum of a 3-hour timeframe and in no more than a one 4-hour period of time. Alternatively, the final round or rounds may be scheduled on a second day. The amount of play will be determined by the tournament director based on the number of applicants accepted. • Any draw format when all matches are a pre-determined length of time and the winners are those players who lead at the end of the timed period. This format shall be scheduled so as to complete all matches in a division on one day and in no more one 4hour period of time. b. Match and Scoring Format. The match format shall be a single 4-game short set or two out of three short-sets with a 10 point match tiebreak in lieu of a third set. The match format will be determined by the tournament director based on the amount of entries received. c. Singles and Doubles Events Required. Tournaments shall be required to offer both singles and doubles events and players that enter shall be required to play in both the singles and doubles events. d. Entry Fee. The entry fee for an Orange Ball Tournament shall be a base fee that shall not exceed $35.00 per player. The motion was approved by a vote of 4 in favor, 0 opposed, and no abstentions. 4. Adjournment Nigel adjourned the meeting at 7:45p.m. The committee will meet on the first Thursday of every month at 6p.m.
