Welcome back Sophomores! Are you ready for college yet? You are midway through your high school experience, and there is much for you to do to make sure you are on your way to college readiness and success. •
CONTINUE getting the most out of your challenging courses! Keep track of your progress on your chosen graduation plan. DO NOT fail any of your courses.
•
Register for the PLAN (pre-ACT) and PSAT (pre-SAT) Tests. Take these exams seriously. The PLAN Test and the PSAT Test point out your academic strengths, the areas where improvement is needed, and they let you know if you’re on track for college. These exams help you find careers that match your interests, and they help you connect with colleges and universities that might be interested in you!
•
Continue to volunteer! Be proactive! Keep track of all your activities, both in school and out of school: UIL clubs and organizations, church activities, volunteer activities, sports teams, etc.
•
Take or retake the Texas Assessment Initiative (TSI) Test until you pass all three sections: Reading, Writing, and Math. All 3 sections should be completed by the end of your sophomore year!
•
Consult with your counselor to ensure you are on track with your graduation plan and grades.
•
Sign up for Summer Enrichment Programs and/or Work at a Job. Volunteer in different organizations over the summer to demonstrate commitment to community service and leadership. If you can’t volunteer, holding employment demonstrates commitment, a hard work ethic, and maturity to handle your finances. University and scholarship officials are looking for these qualities in students.
