SERIES NOTES – Colgate and Syracuse are playing for the 53rd time. The Raiders and Orange renewed the cross-town rivalry last season after a five-year hiatus. Syracuse leads the all-time series 42-9-1 and has won each of the past nine meetings. The last Colgate win over the Orange was an 11-9 triumph in Syracuse in 1975. The Raiders are 4-27-1 all-time at Syracuse. The Orange defeated Colgate in Hamilton last season 17-8. LAST TIME OUT – Navy outscored Colgate 6-1 in the fourth quarter to earn a 15-9 win over the Raiders in the Patriot League Tournament championship. Navy’s Nick Mirabito led all scorers with three goals and two assists, while Colgate’s Matt Lalli had a team-high three goals. Nick Monastero finished with a goal and two assists, while Brendan Hurley had one goal and one assist. The Raiders jumped all over the Mids, going ahead 4-3 after the first quarter. Colgate continued to give Navy all it could handle as it trailed by just one heading into the final frame. That’s when the Navy offense became a model of efficiency as it scored six goals on just seven shots. The Raiders were within striking defense at 12-9 before they pulled the goalie out of the net for a high pressure defense. HARTMAN AWARD – Head coach Jim Nagle recently was named the recipient of the Howard Hartman Award given annually to the Colgate coach of the year. The award recognizes Nagle’s accomplishments in leading the Raiders to new heights in 2006. Under his guidance that season, Colgate captured its first Patriot League regular season crown, climbed into the national rankings, and tied the program record for wins in a season.

GAME 6 Penn State 7 Colgate 4 Sat., March 13, 2007 Georgetown Prep North Bethesda, Md. NORTH BETHESDA, Md.—Penn State’s Brian Shea scored three goals to lead the Nittany Lions to a 7-4 victory over Colgate at Georgetown Prep. The Raiders were led by sophomore Brandon Corp’s three goals. The Nittany Lions controlled play throughout much of the first 20 minutes. Shea put Penn State on the board first just 2:41 into the contest. Pat Heim added another tally six minutes later to put PSU in front 2-0 after the first frame. Penn State doubled the score to 4-0 in the opening six minutes of the second session before Colgate was able to get its offense going. Corp fired in a low shot at the net that Penn State goalie Drew Adams was able to get a stick on. The ball bounded out of his crosse and fell into the goal to make it a 4-1 game. Two minutes later Corp took a pass from Matt Lalli and fired it high into the left corner of the cage to make it a two-goal game. The Raiders continued to hold the Penn State offense in check in the quarter, forcing a pushing penalty with 2:05 remaining in the third quarter. Sophomore Kevin Colleluori sent a pass from behind the cage to a streaking Nick Monastero who just touched it into the back of the net for a man-up score. Coming out of the break ahead by one goal at 4-3, Shea gave PSU a two-goal cushion once again with his third goal of the day. Corp responded with his second tally in the contest to make it 5-4 with 5:51 in the third period. The two teams tightened up defensively in the final 20 minutes as Penn State pulled away with two unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. The Nittany Lions controlled the faceoffs, winning 10-of-15 restarts. The two squads tied for 33 groundballs apiece, while PSU held a 28-20 advantage on shots. In goal, sophomore Brian Cain made nine stops for Colgate. Adams had seven saves for Penn State. SCORE BY PERIOD Colgate University Penn State Univ

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Fourth-ranked Navy jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as it upended Colgate, 15-10. Navy added two more goals six seconds apart later in the quarter for a 5-0 lead after the first. The Raiders came out of the break looking to make a run of their own. William Wallace put the Mids in front 6-0, but Colgate junior Josh Back stopped the run two minutes later when he sent a shot into the lower left corner of the net. Nick Monastero added a score 57 seconds later with an assist from Jeff Hiller. Colleluori made it a three-goal game two minutes later. Ian Dingman put Navy up by four again, 7-3, at the 5:02 mark. Wallace and Billy Looney hooked up 1:25 later with a man-up goal to go in front, 8-3. Corp fired a pass from behind the cage to Hurley who whipped the ball into the back of the net. That would be as close as the Raiders could get as Navy scored four unanswered to start the third quarter and headed into the final period with a 13-6 advantage. The Raiders scored three of the first four goals in the fourth session, but it was too little too late. In goal, Tim Harrington played the majority of the game, making a career-high 13 saves. Sophomore Brandon Corp scored a careerhigh four goals and five points for the Raiders, while Merrick Thomson had a game-high five goals for the Great Danes. The Raiders fell behind by early as the Great Danes scored a pair of goals just 3:16 into the game. Colgate dominated possession for much of the next 10 minutes, but was unable to find the back of the net. With just over a minute remaining in the first quarter, Albany’s Mike Ammann made it a 3-0 after the first session. Brendan Hurley opened the second quarter with a bang for the Raiders as he slipped a shot past the near post to make it 3-1. Albany came right back two minutes later with a tally from Mike Ammann. After some back and forth action over the next four minutes, Corp took a restart and beat the Albany goaltender with a rifle to make it a 4-2 game. Albany and Colgate traded scores in the next 31 seconds to make it a 5-3 game. The furious scoring pace continued a minute later with a Colgate goal from Matt Lalli. Albany closed out the half on a strong note, taking a two-goal lead, 6-4, off of a Thomson score. Steve Ammann assisted on the tally. The third quarter proved deadly for the Raiders as the Great Dane defense stifled Colgate. The Raiders struggled on offense as Albany scored three unanswered for a 9-4 lead after three. The Great Danes outshot Colgate 16-2 in the third frame. The Raiders opened the fourth stanza like the second, getting a goal from Back to make it a 9-5 contest. Albany, however, responded by scoring four of the next six goals for a 13-7 lead with four minutes left to play. Albany held off the Raiders as they scored three unanswered in the final three minutes.

HAMILTON, N.Y.—Colgate’s Brandon Corp scored a game-high four goals and had five points to lead the Raiders to a 9-7 victory over ninth-ranked Army. The Raiders outscored the Black Knights 4-1 in the fourth quarter, including 3-0 in the final seven minutes. Junior Matt Lalli added two goals and an assist for Colgate, while three other players tallied one goal. Seven different players scored for the Black Knights with Justin Bokmeyer being the lone multiple-point scorer with three points. Lalli got things started just 2:30 into the first quarter with a man-up goal. Kevin LoRusso tied the score for Army seven minutes. The Raiders and Black Knights traded goals to start the second quarter before Colgate scored a pair to go in front 4-3 at the halftime break. It was Corp striking again to start the fourth quarter to tie the game at six. Army went ahead again at the 9:31 mark , but that would be it for the Black Knights. With 7:38 left to play, Lalli dodged his defender and scored to start Colgate’s three-goal run. Coming out of a timeout at 5:33, Corp got the ball and curled around the back of the goal and fired home a shot for an 8-7 Colgate lead. The Raiders nearly mirrored that goal as Army sent Fullerton out of the goal to double-team. Sophomore Will Planer got the ball and raced to the empty net to seal the victory for the Raiders. In goal, Tim Harrington made eight saves, while Adam Fullerton had just three for Army.
