2018 Vertfest Clinics: 1PM-4PM Companion Rescue Description: Are your rescue skills tuned up? Practice and refine your companion rescue response, from scene safety to strategic shoveling. Since rescue skills are perishable, yearly practice is a minimum for backcountry travelers. Clinic taught by qualified AIARE instructors.

Gear List Learning Objectives:  Consistently follow and pinpoint a single beacon signal  Understand the importance of speed  Recognize the key stages of team avalanche rescue and common mistakes.  Apply strategic shoveling techniques.

Pre-requisites:  Basic knowledge of beacon function

Optional: thermos, snowshoes, touring gear

 Fitness compatible with walking and shoveling in deep snow.

Start Time and Place: Registration open from 8AM-12:45 at the NWAC tent at Alpental base (see image). Expected Destination: Lower Phantom Slide Path (across from Alpental)
