2nd Grade Spring Academy Week 7: Shooting Foot skills – four grids
Implementation Each player dribbles around one of the grids, each grid is a different foot skill. After a couple of minutes the players switch grids clockwise on the coach’s instruction.
Shooting to target
Implementation Each player will set up in a pair across from a center cone about 10 yards away. •
Grid 1 - Free dribble Grid 2 - Inside and outside only Grid 3 - Lace and sole only Grid 4 - Weak foot only

Play for a couple of minutes at a time, each time the cone is hit the player gets a point. After the 2 minutes is over, you will have a winner and loser in each pair. The winners move up and losers move down.
2v1 to goal
Implementation 4 attackers going to goal vs 2 defenders and a GK. The defenders will try to score in either of the two wide goals if they win the ball. Progression • Play 2 vs 2 plus a GK.
Progression Move further back in distance. Coaching Points • Keep the ball close • Head up and looking for space • Change directions and speeds • Lots of touches on the ball/Fast feet
Coaching Points • Correct shooting technique • Laces technique-NO toes • ABC’s • Angle- of the approach • Body- non kicking foot by the ball/chin-knee-toe • Contact- strike the laces in the middle of the ball • Follow through for power
All sessions end with a regular game (5v5) 20 min at least NO coaching- let the children play!
Coaching Points • Correct shooting technique • First touch then shoot- at speed • Open space ahead? Shoot • Look for a pass If you cannot shoot • Beat a player with a move is possible
