9/17/14 Robert Screen U13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Team Member
Robert Screen is this week’s Capital Area RailHawks Player Spotlight. Robert is a member of the U13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Team for the 2014-2015 season. Robert's soccer career began at the age of five when he started playing YMCA soccer. In 2008 he moved to club soccer and joined St. Louis Scott Gallagher (SLSG) Aston Villa in St Louis, MO. In 2011 Robert moved up to the SLSG Premier 2000 team and joined the U12 Pre-Academy Team in 2012, but prior to the start of the season he relocated to North Carolina. Robert's time at CASL started with U13 Premier Black in Fall 2012 and over the course of three seasons he was moved up to U13 Elite White, then U14 Elite Black. Robert also took part in NC ODP and attended the Regional Alabama Camp in 2013 and 2014. Robert was excited to have been invited to join the 00/01 Capital Area RailHawks Academy for the 2014/15 year. Robert's biggest coaching influences have been Chris Brumbaugh and Chris Gassner (SLSG Aston Villa) made him learn to play every position (except goalie) and made him comfortable in using his weaker, left foot. Pete Collico (SLSG Premier 2000) was another one of his big influences as a coach because he had him work harder than any other coach previously had. Tim Evans played a strong role because he selected Robert to play his preferred offensive midfield position and he believed in Robert's abilities and improved Robert's self-confidence. Last but not least, Richard Huxford was the coach who taught Robert that continued work on fitness and conditioning are key to continuing to play successfully at the highest level of soccer. Some of Robert's biggest accomplishments to date include: (1) finishing as the top team in NC in the 2014 Region III Spring League and winning the 2014 NCYSA State Cup with U14 CASL Elite Black, (2) making the ODP Region III Player Pool (in 2014) in Alabama, and most recently (3) making the 00/01 Capital Area RailHawks Academy team.
Robert's goals are to be the best player that he can possibly be with the expertise provided by the team of Capital Area RailHawks coaches, to continue to compete at the Academy level or above, and to have the opportunity to play at the highest level possible in the future. Best of luck to Robert this year and the U13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team.
