Unit 1: All About God
Discussion Questions: • What are some things that God can do that you cannot do? • What are a few things God asks us to do that seem impossible sometimes? • Would God ask us to do something that’s impossible? Why? • If we are faced with something that seems impossible, what should we do?
Devotion: Read Genesis 18:9-15 and Phil 4:13. Sarah overhears God’s declaration that she will bear a son within the year. Sarah is an old woman and Abraham is an old man! She laughs knowing that having a baby is impossible. The Lord hears her laugh and says to Abraham “Why did Sarah laugh? ...Is anything too hard for the Lord?” The question: Is anything too difficult for God? The Bible is clear on the answer: No! God can do all things! He can do all His holy will. His plan was for Abraham to become a great nation, and part of that plan was for him and his wife Sarah to have Isaac. Their advanced age was no obstacle for God. Amazingly, WE can do anything God desires us to. Sometimes the things He asks us to do may seem impossible. Overcoming temptation, being friends with someone difficult, and following God’s plan for our lives can seem so hard to do. However, we know that if it is God’s will for us to do it, He will empower us to the task. He will give us His strength! God can do all things, therefore you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength!
Crafts/Activities • It’s Too Hard! Have your kids arm wrestle you or your spouse and let them fail. Ask them if it seems impossible to win. Explain that often a circumstance might seem impossible (self- control, doing the right thing, overcoming a hard situation, etc.), but God will be our strength to make it possible if it is His will. He will be our muscles to make the impossible possible! • Make a t-shirt that says “I can do all things!” or “My God Can!” using fabric paint.

Unit 1: All About God
Can God do all things? Yes, God can do all His holy will! Read Daniel 4:34-35. Nebuchadnezzar was a powerful king. Unfortunately, he was full of pride. Although he acknowledged the power of God in Daniel, he continued to worship false gods. One day, Nebuchadnezzar had a terrible dream. God gave Daniel the interpretation of that dream, allowing him to tell the king all that it meant. It was not good news. Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar that God had commanded that all his kingdom be taken away from him and that he would live in the wilderness, crawling along and eating like an animal, for seven years. God gave him another chance to repent, but sadly Nebuchadnezzar chose to continue following false gods. The dream came true and the king found himself living like an animal for seven years before he finally acknowledged that God was king and ruler over all. When Nebuchadnezzar humbled himself before the Lord, this is what he said: At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation; all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?” Nebuchadnezzar realized that God was sovereign over all and that He could do all His good and holy will. Awe and humility should be our response as well, when we think about God’s power and might.
