PLAYOFF RAMIFICATIONS
The Rock no longer have any hopes of earning an NCAA Division II playoff berth this fall. Bloomsburg, on the other hand, may need a win today to lock up one of the six berths in Super Region One competition. The Huskies were fourth in the Oct. 29 regional ranking behind Shippensburg, Winston-Salem State and New Haven. The updated regional rankings will be released Tuesday, Nov. 6.
THE SERIES
The Rock and Huskies have not met since 2005, when the Huskies recorded a 40-24 victory on their home turf. Bloomsburg has won each of the last eight meetings with The Rock. The last SRU win over BU came in 1983.
THE COACHES
This week’s Rock-Bloomsburg battle features two of the most successful NCAA Division II coaches in the nation. The Rock’s George Mihalik owns a 167-102-4 (.618) career win-loss record The Rock’s head coach. He is SRU’s all-time leader in career wins and ranks third among active PSAC coaches, fifth on the conference’s all-time wins chart and sixth among active NCAA D-II head coaches. Mihalik is winless in six games against Bloomsburg. Bloomsburg’s Danny Hale ranks second on the PSAC’s all-time wins list and fourth among active D-II head coaches with a 212-68-1 career record. Hale’s record includes five seasons (1984-88) as head coach at West Chester and the last 20 seasons as the Huskies’ head coach. Hale, who is 6-0 all-time against SRU, trails only Rock graduate Denny Douds (237 wins in 39 seasons at East Stroudsburg) on the PSAC wins list.
SENIOR DAY
Nine Rock seniors will play their final collegiate game Saturday: kicking specialist Kurt Brackman, offensive guard Jesse Buck, defensive lineman Jack Charles, offensive center Austin Fedell, tight end Josh Gardner, strong safety Marquis Knight, linebacker Aaron Moul, running back Akeem Satterfield and defensive end Jeff Thompson. This year’s senior class helped The Rock record four consecutive winning seasons, a 26-17 cumulative record and wins over three nationally-ranked teams the last four seasons.
ANOTHER WINNING SEASON
With their win last Saturday over Lock Haven, The Rock assured themselves of a winning record for the fourth consecutive season, the sixth season in the last seven and the 18th time in Mihalik’s 25 seasons as the Green and White’s head coach. The Rock and Bloomsburg are two of only five PSAC programs that have had a winning record in each of the last four seasons. The other three are California, Edinboro and LIU Post (formerly C.W. Post).
Weekly honors
Four Rock football studentathletes have earned Player of the Week honors this fall:
ISAIAH COLEMAN 9/16 PSAC-Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
2012 Rock Football Notes: Week 11 vs. Bloomsburg • Page 2
JAMES McCOMBIE 9/11 Beyond Sports Network Special Teams Athlete of Week
Bloomsburg ranks third in the PSAC in scoring at 38.0 ppg and are seventh in scoring defense at 27.6 ppg. The Huskies have the conference’s top running game (328.0 yards per game), thanks to the talents of junior Franklyn Quiteh (1,743 yards, #1 in the nation, 18 TDs) and sophomore Eddie Mateo (960 yards, 6 TDs), who rank first and fifth, in the PSAC in rushing. Redshirt freshman quarterback Tim Kelly has passed for 1,585 yards and 20 TDs. Senior wide receiver Kyle Fisher has caught 23 passes for 439 yards and five TD. Senior linebacker Jarrett Pidgeon has recorded a team-best 85 tackles. Senior defensive back Terrell Oglesby has intercepted three passes. Junior Dan Fisher is 47of-50 on extra-point kicks, 9-of-13 on field goals with a long of 52 yards and ranks 11th in punting with a 38.6 yards per punt average.
AERIAL ASSAULTS
NIGEL BARKSDALE 10/14 & 10/28 PSAC-West Offensive Athlete of the Week
JEFF THOMPSON 10/21 PSAC-Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week
The season-long series of aerial assaults on The Rock defense appear to have ended. Kelly is ranked 10th with a 158.5 passing yards per game average as the triggerman for a Huskies attack that averages a PSAC-best 328.0 rushing yards per game. The numbers compiled by Kelly pale in comparision to those put up by QBs The Rock faced in the first nine weeks of the season. Included in that group were the current No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 8 ranked passers in the PSAC: Shippensburg’s Zach Zulli (384.5 ypg, 348 vs. SRU), Kutztown’s Kevin Morton (348.1 ypg, 301 vs. SRU), Edinboro’s Cody Harris (284.9 ypg, 379 vs. SRU), Gannon’s Liam Nadler (257.5 ypg, 325 vs. SRU) and Clarion’s Ben Fiscus (229.6 ypg, 287 vs SRU). The other three QBs The Rock have faced this fall are ranked second in the WVIAC (Seton Hill’s Ryan Morris, 246.3 ypg, 207 vs. SRU) and 12th (Mercyhurst’s Anthony Vendemia, 152.0 ypg, 143 vs. SRU) and 16th (Indiana’s Mike Box, 104.8 ypg, 98 vs. SRU) in the PSAC. Barksdale ranks 11th in the PSAC with a 157.2 passing ypg average. Barksdale has averaged 243.6 passing ypg in his five starts, a rate that would rank as the seventh-best in the PSAC if his totals did not include games in which he came off the bench.

CHALLENGING SCHEDULE
The Rock definitely didn’t get any favors this fall from the schedulemaker. SRU’s 2012 schedule features six games against teams that won seven or more games in 2011: PSAC “crossover” foes Bloomsburg (9-2 in 2011), Kutztown (11-2) and Shippensburg (7-4), the last three teams to win a PSAC-East title, as well as PSAC-West rivals California (10-3), Edinboro (7-4) and Indiana (7-3). • The Rock’s three-game PSAC “crossover” foes had a combined record of 27-8 (.771 winning percentage) last fall, which matched the mark compiled by Edinboro’s crossover rivals and ranks as the best in the 16-team PSAC. • The Rock’s three PSAC “crossover” rivals have compiled a 20-4 cumulative record in the first eight weeks this fall. • The Rock’s 2012 overall schedule also ranked as the second toughest among the 46 NCAA Division II Super Region One schools in terms of opponents’ 2011 success. Rock foes had a 71-50 win-loss record or a .587 winning percentage last fall. Millersville has the toughest schedule (.589, 73-51).

NOTES: • Last week at California, Barksdale became the sixth player in Rock history to throw for 200 or more yards in four or more games. He joined a group that included Cody Endres (7), John Linhart (7), Randy McKavish (5), James Poldiak (5), and Chad Vogt (5). • Barksdale was only the third player to pass for 200 or more yards in four games the same season, joining only Linhart (1992) and Endres (2011) in that group. • If Barksdale passes for 200 or more yards this, he will join Endres as the only Rock quarterbacks to throw for 200 or more yards in five games in one season.

The Rock secondary intercepted four Gannon passes Sept. 15, one shy of the single-game record set in 1990 in a home gmae vs. Shippensburg and tied two seasons later at Lock Haven. The Rock has now picked off four passes in a single game twice in the last two seasons. They also stole four Sept. 24, 2011 vs. Indiana. This year’s pocket-picking effort, which already includes two INT returns for TDs, comes on the heels of a 2011 season in which Rock defenders had one of the finest seasons in school history. • The Rock returned three pass interceptions for touchdowns in 2011, the most since 1999. The Rock had two INT returns for TDs in 1993, 1998, 2005 and 2009 and now also in 2012. • Brandon Watters’ 10 INTs last fall tied the school record set by Tony Robinson (1991) and tied by Brian Polk (1998). • Watters’ career total of 14 INT’s was the highest recorded by a Rock player since Jim Urbano finished his carer with 16 picks in 2001. Watters’ pickoff total is the fifth highest in school history. Bob Culp and Robinson, both of whom played from 1989-92, and Polk (1996-99) share the school record for career INTs with 17 each. • Brandon Burley was the second Rock player in as many home games vs. Indiana to take an INT “to the house” for what proved to be the game-winning points. A.J. Saunders sprinted 60 yards for the only TD in SRU’s 7-3 win over Indiana in 2009. • The 20 interceptions recorded last fall were seven shy of the school record (27 in 11 games in 1992) and just shy of three times as many picks as The Rock recorded in 2010 (7). • The Rock’s school-record 311 yards on INT returns last fall was almost eight times as many yards as they had on seven picks in 2010 (40). • The Rock’s interception and return yardage totals last fall far surpassed the numbers for previous Mihalik-coached teams:
