26 Dear Parents, Firstly can I take this opportunity to wish you a great bank holiday I hope this weather holds and you have the opportunity to have some quality family time. This week we have had a number of visitors to school from across the Federation. On Wednesday we had 15 teachers spend the afternoon at Brixington moderating with our Year 2 teachers ensuring that there is consistency across the Federation in our assessment practice even if the national picture is a little fragile. This morning we had the full leadership team from St. Leonard’s Church of England School in Exeter seeing how we have embedded the First Federation consistencies and looking at learning behaviour across the school. It’s great to be “showing off” our children’s learning to another school. It was also nice to have Mr Baker back in school today to visit and look at how the school is developing. These visits are very important to our staff and children as we continue on the road to being a good school. Our PTA are busy working behind the scenes organising our Summer Fair which takes place on the 18th June. Attached to the reverse of the newsletter is a list of requests that will ensure that the day is memorable for all those that attend.

Children’s Week

On Thursday 1S walked to the Post Office at Brixington shops to post a surprise postcard to their mum and dad! We have been learning all about Letters in Literacy and also writing questions. So we decided to write a question to our mums and dads and post it to them. We enjoyed giving the Post Mistress our money, attaching our stamp and then posting it in the post box! We will be watching out for the postman!! We would like to thank the Post Office very much for letting 26 of us buy stamps!

1LF visited the local garden centre this week as part their topic work. They found some seeds to plant and worked out how much to pay for each one using real money! Everyone enjoyed searching for the different things to buy.

FSU Super learners for the week are:F1D Esme Watt and Max Bonel F2G Zac Davies, Louise Kelly and Riley West F2S Isobel Thornton and Leland Smith 1AF Caylee Nolan because she has been trying really hard with her school work, concentrating better and she is developing a mature approach to her school life. 1S Louie Osborne because he has done some amazing independent writing this week! The improvement in what he produces since September is absolutely astounding! Keep it up 3N Lois Verth: In the hub bub of a busy learning environment, where children are on a roller coaster ride of emotions, Lois is the “go to” girl if you want a supportive hug or words of support. A very important part of life!

4M Leo Burton because he is showing real progress in both writing and maths and displaying

fantastic learning behaviours and putting real effort into everything that he does. 4W Toby Balcer for excellent descriptive writing, using similes to paint a picture in the reader's mind. Great job! 5K Bella Blackburn – for organising herself much more efficiently and for being more independent. 5N Ellie Cresswell - Ellie you have really applied yourself in maths this week and tackled some tricky multiplication methods! Thank you for also being one of my number 1 class helpers! Your help is always appreciated! 6M Jasmine Evans because she always shows an enthusiasm for learning and a desire to get things right. This week she has written an outstanding discussion on 'Should we save the Rainforests?’ 6B Emily Godfrey for working her socks off since Easter.
