CAA WEEKLY AWARDS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jus n Wright-Foreman • Hofstra So., G, 6-0, 184 - Queens, N.Y./High School of Construc on Wright-Foreman averaged 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as Hofstra split a pair of road games last week. The sophomore guard contributed a game-high 29 points, seven boards and four assists in a 69-65 setback at Towson and scored a gamehigh 25 points in a 74-64 win at Northeastern. Wright-Foreman shot 50% from the floor, including 8-of-17 from 3-point range, for the week. He’s scored double figures in 17 straight games and has topped the 20-point mark in his past seven contests.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Ryan Daly • Delaware Fr., G, 6-4, 185 - Ardmore, Pa./Archbishop Carroll Daly averaged 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as Delaware won back-to-back CAA games for the first me this year. The freshman guard posted his third double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 76-74 over me win over Elon and had team-highs of 12 points and six boards in a 58-57 triumph at James Madison. He hit a jumper with 1.5 seconds le to force OT vs. Elon and nailed a game-tying 3-pointer with 42 seconds to go at JMU.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Grant Riller • College of Charleston Fr., G, 6-3, 185 - Ocoee, Fla./Ocoee Riller averaged 22.5 points while shoo ng 72% from the floor in College of Charleston’s two games last week. The freshman guard scored a team-best 26 points on 11-of-14 FG shoo ng at William & Mary and tallied 19 points on 7-of-11 FG shoo ng vs. Northeastern. Riller, who was 4-of-8 from three last week, has reached double figures in 11 straight games and has topped the 20-point mark in four of his past six ou ngs.

RACE TIGHTENS ATOP CAA STANDINGS: The top three teams in the CAA standings are separated by only two games with two weeks le in the regular season. Preseason favorite UNCW (11-3) has a one-game edge over College of Charleston (10-4) with both teams heading on the road this week to face Hofstra and Northeastern. Towson (9-5) has climbed to third place a er winning four in a row and nine of its last 10. The Tigers entertain fourth-place Elon on Thursday and James Madison on Saturday.

Last Thursday, freshman Bolden Brace hit a baseline shot at the buzzer to give Northeastern a 73-72 victory at Charleston, and Delaware edged Elon 76-74 in over me a er freshman Ryan Daly made a game-tying jumper with 1.5 seconds le in regula on. On Saturday, Darian Bryant nailed a 3-pointer with 5.5 seconds to go to li Delaware past James Madison, 58-57, and Elon knocked off first-place UNCW, 77-76, a er the Phoenix made a key defensive stop in the final seconds.

PILING UP THE WINS: UNCW (22-5) is one of 17 teams in Division I with at least 22 wins this season as of Feb. 15. The others are #1 Gonzaga (26-0), #2 Villanova (25-2), #3 Kansas (23-3), #4 Baylor (22-4), #5 Arizona (23-3), #6 UCLA (23-3), #7 Oregon (22-4), #18 Cincinna (22-3), #19 SMU (22-4), #22 Saint Mary’s (22-3), Wichita State (23-4), Vermont (23-5), Akron (22-4), New Mexico State (22-4), Middle Tennessee (22-4) and Monmouth (22-5). THREE CAA TEAMS IN TOP 100 IN LATEST RPI REPORT: Three CAA teams are ranked in the top 100 in the latest RPI rankings released by Collegiate Basketball News (rpira ngs.com) through games of Feb. 14. UNCW (22-5), which has won 19 of its last 23 games, leads the way at #43. College of Charleston (19-8), which has captured 16 of its last 21 contests, is ranked #72. Towson (17-10), which has won nine of its last 10 games, is ranked #93. Only 10 other conferences (American, ACC, Atlan c 10, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Mountain West, Pac 12, SEC and West Coast) have three teams in the top 93 of the RPI. The CAA is ranked #11 among the na on’s 32 Division I leagues. HOME SWEET HOME: Home teams have won 68.6% (48-22) of their games in CAA play this season, reversing a trend from the past two years. William & Mary is 7-0 at home, while Elon, UNCW and Towson are all 6-1. All 10 teams have won at least three conference games at home. Only UNCW and CofC have winning records (5-2) on the road in league ac on. Home teams were 45-45 in CAA play last season and 47-43 in 2014-15.

THREE CAA PLAYERS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT: Three CAA men’s basketball players were selected to the Capital One Academic All-District team, which recognizes the na on’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athle cally and in the classroom. Elon sophomores Steven Santa Ana and Tyler Seibring were honored on the District 3 first team and College of Charleston junior Evan Bailey made the District 4 first team. All three will be placed on the ballot for Academic All-America accolades. WILLIAMS, WRIGHT-FOREMAN MAKE BIG SCORING JUMPS: Northeastern’s T.J. Williams and Hofstra’s Jus n Wright-Foreman are two of the na on’s most improved scorers this season according to STATS LLC. Wright-Foreman has an improvement of 15.1 ppg, going from 1.6 ppg last season to 16.7 ppg in 2016-17. Williams has a jump of 14.2 ppg, going from 6.8 ppg last season to a league-best 21.0 ppg this year. CBS SPORTS NETWORK TO TELEVISE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The CAA has signed an agreement with CBS Sports to have the tle game of the 2017 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship televised live on CBS Sports Network. February 16, 2017 CAA LEADS THE NATION IN ROAD VICTORIES: CAA teams have won 27 true road games and are 9-8 on neutral courts against non-conference foes this season. The 27 road wins are the most of any Division I conference. Eight CAA teams recorded mul ple road victories in non-conference play, led by UNCW, Northeastern and Drexel with four each. NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS: CAA teams concluded regular-season non-conference play with a combined 72-55 record. Eight of the league’s 10 teams posted .500 or be er overall records against non-league foes. CAA COACHES TELECONFERENCES EACH TUESDAY The CAA will conduct its coaches media teleconference each Tuesday morning throughout the remainder of the regular season. All 10 coaches will par cipate on the call beginning at 10 a.m. and a complete schedule and call-in informa on can be found on Page 5 of this release. UNCW’s CACOK AND INGRAM, NU’S WILLIAMS AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS: UNCW forward Devontae Cacok leads Division I in field goal percentage (78.8%) and ranks 20th in rebounding (10.1 rpg) according to the latest NCAA stats through games of Feb. 14. Northeastern guard T.J. Williams, who has tallied 20+ points 15 mes this season, ranks 17th na onally in scoring (21.0 ppg). UNCW guard Denzel Ingram is 18th in 3-pointers per game (3.2), 28th in assists (5.5 apg) and 16th in assist/TO ra o. HOFSTRA’S GUSTYS RANKS 4TH IN DIVISION I IN REBOUNDS: Hofstra junior Rokas Gustys ranks fourth na onally with 12.0 rebounds per game as of Feb. 13. He grabbed 25 rebounds in the Pride’s 65-57 win over South Dakota on Nov. 23, which is the 2nd-most by any NCAA Div. I player this season, and had 23 rebounds in a season-opening victory over Coppin State. Last season, Gustys had six games with at least 20 boards and ranked second na onally with 13.0 rpg. He’s had 10 or more rebounds 15 mes this season and has eight double-doubles. The 25 rebounds ed Navy All-American David Robinson (1986) for the second-most rebounds in a game in CAA history and was just one off the conference mark of 26 set by William & Mary’s David Cully in 1996. CLEANING THE GLASS: Nine of the CAA’s 10 teams are out-rebounding their opponents this season. Towson leads the league and ranks 9th in Division I with an +8.1 rebound margin, while James Madison is second in the CAA with a +3.7 margin. CHARLESTON AMONG NATION’S TOP DEFENSIVE TEAMS: Charleston is 8th in the na on in 3-point field goal percentage defense (29.5%) and ranks 19th in Division I in scoring defense (63.1 ppg). UNCW, NORTHEASTERN SET CAA MARK FOR 3-POINTERS: UNCW and Northeastern have both set the CAA record for 3-pointers in a game this season. The Seahawks went 21-of32 from 3-point range against Delaware on Feb. 6, and the Huskies were 21-of-33 from beyond the arc vs. Delaware on Jan. 5. The previous CAA treys record was 20, set by VCU in 2010 and Navy in 1990. SIX CAA PLAYERS NOMINATED FOR GOOD WORKS TEAM: Six CAA men’s basketball players are nominees for the Allstate NABC Good Works Team. Nominees are CofC’s Evan Bailey, Elon’s Luke Eddy, Hofstra’s Rokas Gustys, UNCW’s Chris Flemmings, Towson’s Eddie Keith II and W&M’s Paul Rowley. The Allstate NABC Good Works Teams® recognize players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruis c acts stand out amongst all other student-athletes par cipa ng in the sport. FRESHMEN MAKE BIG IMPACT: The future appears to be bright based on performances from freshmen around the conference. Delaware guard Ryan Daly ranks among the top 10 in the CAA in scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg) and has scored double figures in 16 of his last 18 games. Drexel guard Kurk Lee has scored double figures in 22 games this season and ranks 11th in the league in scoring (14.7 ppg) and 4th in assists (5.1 apg). Hofstra guard Eli Pemberton has reached the 20-point mark six mes and ranks 18th in the CAA with 13.1 ppg. Drexel’s Kari Jonsson (9.9 ppg) leads the CAA in 3-point FG percentage (44.4%). Northeastern’s trio of freshmen Shawn Occeus, Max Boursiquot and Bolden Brace have combined to average 16.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg. TWO CAA TEAMS RANKED IN LATEST MID-MAJOR POLL: UNCW was ranked #10 and College of Charleston was ranked #17 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll that was released on February 13. UNCW PICKED TO WIN CAA TITLE: UNCW, which returned three starters from last year’s 25-win team that captured its first CAA championship since 2006, was picked to win the CAA men’s basketball championship in 2016-17 according to a vote of the league’s coaches, media rela ons directors and media members. The Seahawks were followed in the vo ng by Towson, William & Mary and College of Charleston. Chosen fi h was James Madison, followed by Hofstra, Northeastern, Elon, Drexel and Delaware. EIGHT ALL-CONFERENCE PLAYERS RETURN: Eight players who earned all-conference honors in 2015-16, are back, including three first-team honorees in UNCW guard Chris Flemmings, Hofstra forward/center Rokas Gustys and William & Mary guard/forward Omar Prewi . Back from the second team is Towson forward William Adala Moto. Returning from the third team are College of Charleston forward Jarrell Brantley, UNCW guard Denzel Ingram, College of Charleston guard Cameron Johnson and Towson guard Mike Morsell. CAA WELCOMES NEW COACHES: The CAA has three new head coaches this season. Zach Spiker takes over at Drexel a er spending the past seven seasons as head coach at Army West Point. With the Cadets, he compiled 102 victories, including a 19-14 mark in 2015-16. Louis Rowe returns as head coach James Madison, where was an All-CAA player for the Dukes (1993-94 and 1995-96) and also served as an assistant coach. He was most recently an assistant at Bowling Green. Delaware is led by Mar n Ingelsby, who spent the past 13 years as an assistant at Notre Dame for former Blue Hens’ coach Mike Brey. During his me with the Irish, Ingelsby helped guide the team to eight NCAA Tournament appearances. VARIETY OF CHAMPIONS: Six different schools have won the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship over the past six years. The most recent champions are Old Dominion (2011), VCU (2012), James Madison (2013), Delaware (2014), Northeastern (2015) and UNCW (2016). CAA SHOWS OVERALL STRENGTH: All 10 CAA members have competed in post-season play over the last five years. CAA MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP MOVES TO CHARLESTON: The CAA Men’s Basketball Championship moves to the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C. on March 3-6. It’s the first year of a three-year agreement for the CAA to bring its showcase event to the Lowcountry a er a three-year run in Bal more, Md. Known for rich history, well-preserved architecture, a celebrated restaurant community and mannerly people, the Charleston area has been recognized as a world-class top travel des na on by a number of publica ons, including Condè Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure. Most recently, it was recognized as the No. 1 Small U.S. City by Condè Nast Traveler 2015 Readers’ Choice Awards. Tickets are currently on sale at TicketMaster.com. OUTSTANDING BROADCAST PACKAGE: The CAA features an outstanding broadcast package again this season. The conference will have more than 80 televised games thanks in large part to the conference’s agreements with the NBC Sports Regional Networks, which includes CSN Mid-Atlan c, CSN Philadelphia, CSN New England, The Comcast Network and SNY, and the American Sports Network.
