Homeland Center – Social Worker (Intern) Job Description

This intern will primarily work with Homeland Center’s Activities Department. Homeland Center is a nonprofit Continuing Care Retirement Community in uptown Harrisburg serving 50 residents in personal care, 70 in skilled nursing and 24 in our specialized unit for individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia related illnesses. Homeland Center believes firmly that the resident comes first. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Helping engage residents in group activities Developing meaningful one on one visits with residents Assisting with the documentation of the Activities Department Helping residents register for absentee ballots to vote Involvement in the coordination of community events such as our annual Summer Fair. Attend group outings as a resident escort The student may also perform responsibilities for other departments during their time at Homeland Center depending on their skill sets, interests, and academic goals.

Jennifer Ross would be happy to answer any questions and can be reached directly at 221-7885. She will be the student mentor. Her involvement in the Jewish Community includes being one of the current VPs at Beth El Temple, a board member at the Federation, and a former President of Jewish Family Service. She is an active alumna of Dickinson College and serves as an advisory member at its Asbell Center of Jewish Life. Jennifer was awarded the David L. Javitch Young Leadership award in 2012. She looks forward to the opportunity to mentoring a student and welcoming him/her to an opportunity to intern at an organization with a phenomenal corporate culture and commitment to caring and quality service.
