Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County Board of Directors Meeting October 26, 2015 Minutes In attendance: Andrea Nilon, Al Gibbs, John Russell, Mary Onken, John McCarey, Jim Presutti, Nolly Climes, Kristin Jensen, Michael R. Pillmeier, Robin White, Jim Conklin, James Monroe, Noel Spencer. Staff in attendance: Lucy Joyce, Peggy Kral, Denyse Variano, Jerome Christie, Maire Ullrich, Karan Vanderley, Vivian Monsanto, Susan Kozykowski. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President Andrea Nilon followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Additional Agenda Items: None Correspondence: Letter from John McCarey to County Executive Steve Neuhaus regretfully resigning from his position as the County Executive Representative on the Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County Board of Directors effective November 1, 2015. Reading and Approval of Minutes: Motion by John McCarey, seconded by Jim Presutti, to accept the September Minutes as presented. Vote taken; motion passed unanimously. President’s Report: Andrea Nilon As the days grow shorter our progress at the Park has slowed but certainly not stopped. It is crucial we bring electric and water to the site in order to construct the bathroom to enable usage. You will hear about the challenges we still face and potential solutions this Board needs to consider this evening and going forward. th
Once again -- a reminder to those Board members who have not contributed their portion for our ad in the 100 Anniversary commemorative journal and annual report. The share for each Board Member is $40. If you have not responded with your portion please do as soon as possible. The ad appeared in the Bountiful Harvest program and will also appear in the journal. Please continue to seek ads as the deadline approaches. We will be hosting the joint SBN/CCE Boards meeting this Thursday right here at 6 PM> I encourage everyone to attend to hear about the progress made with some of the issues brought forth from this Board and prior SBN joint meetings. Due to my attendance at a 4-day Assessors’ conference and then a 10 day trip my attendance at meetings was curtailed. However the past month’s meetings and events I did attend are as follows: st

Hired FCS Program Educator who will start on Nov. 12 . Ginny Rizzo, Consultant, just completed survey with staff – needs assessment and has submitted her final outcomes. The report indicates some direction needed, structure changes and work to be done. Report of Liaison Representatives: Orange County Legislators – Paul Ruszkiewicz o Budget hearings – ours went smoothly. o Government Center – work continues Orange County Executive’s Office – John McCarey o Budget in a better place than last year o Economic development o Fairgrounds o Positive direction Committee Reports: Personal – Jim Conklin o Hiring of new staff. o DOL changes which will be coming and changes to staff classifications o Non-exempt vs. Exempt. Finance – John Russell o Financials – no changes from last month. o Motion by John Russell, seconded by John McCarey to accept the Financials as presented to the Board. Vote taken; motion passed unanimously. o Motion by John Russell, seconded by Noel Spencer to appoint the new Bookkeeper Elizabeth Grande custodian of the Petty Cash. Vote taken; motion passed unanimously. o Motion by John Russell, seconded by Jim Presutti to authorize a credit card for new Finance Administrator Vivian Monsanto. Vote taken; motion passed unanimously. Strategic Planning – Noel Spencer – No meetings held recently – will return in January. o Nominating Committee – Al Gibbs – No meetings held – All Board nominations are in place for the Annual Meeting. Program Advisory Committees are being worked on. Campaign Committee – Robin White st o Meeting held on Oct. 21 . o Ask for Money is needed. o Extend the committee o Alumni – need organizer o New Chair – Bunnie Reichle volunteered. o Research Fundraising Firms o Asking Board for authorization to research firms and interview along with 3 volunteers/members of the board and/or committee – Robin would like to be one. o Noel pleaded to have more Board involvement. o Board pledge of $50,000 – presently at about $40,000. Construction Committee – Jim Presutti o Moving along o Catch basins are in o Millings are down o Additional Millings needed – Middletown has confirmed but not 60 loads. o Utility sleeves in. o No respond from Orange & Rockland. o Bathroom – waiting on numbers o Landscaping – Jim and Debbie Lester to meet tomorrow. New Business: Farewell cake for John McCarey was shared. Executive Session: MOTION at 8:15 PM by Al Gibbs, seconded by John Russell to move into Executive Session for Legal issue. All staff was excused except Executive Director Lucy Joyce. MOTION at 8:38 PM by Al Gibbs, seconded by Jim Conklin to come out of Executive Session.
