How our CSA Works

The Farm at VYCC CSA – 2012 Share Cultivating Member: (tax deductible) Would you like to help us grow and deliver fresh, nutritious food to families in need? Become a Cultivating Member today to help us end food insecurity in our community. VYCC Summer Share: 12 week vegetable share and $210 credited to a Flexible “Farm Bucks” Account.

• A 12 week base vegetable share from July through September, supplemented with a Flexible Farm Bucks account. • Beautiful pick-your-own garden. • Enjoy weekly newsletter with recipes, farm updates, and special events. • Certified organic grown vegetables

Fall Share • One time pick-up of hearty fall storage crops including: winter squash, garlic pie pumpkin, carrots, beet, leeks, rutabaga, potato, celeriac, brussels sprouts, onion.

Pasture-Raised Poultry Share • Our certified organic chickens are raised by VYCC crew members and interns on the beautiful pastures behind the West Monitor Barn. Enjoy fresh chickens all summer.

Holiday Harvest Basket • This year get the wholesome ingredients to your holiday meal directly from the farm at VYCC.

Summer Share

The share will include a“Base Share” of your favorite summer vegetables for a 12 week season. The remaining money will be credited to your personal “Flexible Farm Bucks” account which you get to spend any way you choose! Flexible Farm Bucks can be used at our Farm Stand and Farmers Markets to buy more of the summertime favorites you’ll find in your weekly share and other unique and diverse varieties to expand you’re your culinary palette! Each week, as you enjoy your delicious produce, you will also benefit from the satisfaction of eating local, while partnering in our youth development and food security endeavors.

We will do our best to make sure each share is provided its full value in vegetables and poultry. On the other side of the coin, CSA members must also understand that despite the best planning, crop failure and bad weather does happen. Our Mission To feed our community by providing education and training for youth, and contributing to the charitable food system for those in need.

Cultivating Responsible Youth

VYCC Crews We to teach youth about the source of their food, how it is grown, and the value of maintaining a healthy lifestyle while providing fresh produce locally and to those who are food insecure. VYCC School and Conservation Corps Members benefit from a rich learning experience, as they contribute to the farm in a variety of ways. Corps Members: • Helped grow and harvest over 4,000 pounds of produce donated in an effort to alleviate food insecurity in our community. • Raised and donated $6000 of pasture-raised poultry to local food shelves.
