This week’s Utah hike
BY STEVE BAKER Clipper Staff Writer
Sunset Trail: Davis County I was going to drive to the trailhead, but the gate was closed and drove down Pond Road to the park. From the park, we hiked on Skyline Drive for the trailhead. Skyline Drive will open as soon as the snow melts on the highest peaks. On the road you come to a second gate at .75 miles, go around it and continue on the road. At 1.10 miles the paved road ends and turns to gravel. At this sharp turn, look for the trail at the open parking area. There isn’t a trail sign. The trail stays on the north side of the canyon, following Farmington Creek. About a mile into the hike, you will come to the first of two stream crossings. You should have no problem crossing both. As you continue on the trail, spring bluebells add color and you can hear the sound of falling water echoing through the canyon. You arrive above the falls at 3.10 miles. At the falls, take a moment to enjoy the view before heading onward. Trail leaves the creek and snakes up to Sunset Campground. The campground is a perfect place to have lunch. What a beautiful canyon!
