Doug Leko from Antler Quilt Designs coming to Norwich.

Doug Leko, Antler Quilt Designs

Doug Leko’s story is unique in the quilting industry. He founded Antler Quilt Design in 2008, when he was just fourteen. He’d been quilting since the age of six, and working in his mother’s quilt shop over the years helped him develop his skills and refine his art. After pattern testing for various designers, he began to develop his own quilt designs. Doug took off from there, launching a full-scale design and marketing operation while he was still in high school. Since then, his reputation has grown along with his business. He has a vibrant and growing collection of patterns available around the U.S. and Canada. Doug takes a distinctive approach to his quilt designs. He enjoys incorporating secondary design elements, and he’s absolutely passionate about color. For Doug, there’s nothing like pulling together just the right mix of coordinating fabrics for a project. He loves every aspect of the quilting process, from design to fabric selection to handwork to binding. His work has been featured in prominent publications such as McCall’s Quilting and Quiltmaker, and will soon be seen in American Patchwork & Quilting.

Doug will be doing 2 classes at Sew Nice, one on Tuesday, November 4th and one on Wednesday, November 5th. The Tuesday class will be late afternoonevening and will be Doug’s pattern called “Mysterious”. The Wednesday class will be in the morning and will be Doug’s table runner called “Freedom”. Each class is limited to 20 people so sign up early so that you do not miss out.

Many of you will remember the Moda line of fabric designed by Holly Taylor that used a book called Through the Winter Woods. This was Doug’s book and many of you have made several patterns from this book already. So don’t miss the opportunity to take a class with this ingredible designer right here at Sew Nice. Doug is currently out of the country so I haven’t been able to finalize the cost or the times for the classes. We will get that info to the class participants as soon as we hear from Doug. Mysterious: Students make multiples of one block (we cover different construction techniques) and see first-hand how to lay the blocks out into the six different featured layouts. Adding to the overall excitement is seeing the layouts in the variety of classmate color-ways.

Please join Barb to help with this great project. If you have red, white, or blue fabric to donate for this project please consider dropping it off prior to the work days.

Please check your ruler collection for a set of rulers from EZ Wright that are called a Companion Angle and Angle Ruler. I loaned this pair of rulers to someone and I can’t remember who it was. These rulers belong to Carol Syster and she would like to use them in a new project.
