ABOUT THE MATCHUP PANTHERS OPEN SEASON AGAINST U OF THE OZARKS Drury begins its ninth season under coach Steve Hesser with a seasonopener against the University of the Ozarks, an NCAA Division III member from Clarksville, Arkansas. The Eagles are picked for sixth in the seventeam East Division of the American Southwest Conference, while the Panthers are the preseason pick for second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division behind favorite and defending champion Missouri-St. Louis. Drury played just one exhibition contest in the preseason, coming away with a 104-60 win over Hillsdale Baptist behind 19 points and 12 rebounds off the bench from sophomore forward Cameron Adams. ABOUT THE 2012-13 PANTHERS Drury returns virtually its entire cast from last season’s 17-11 finisher that won eight of its last 11 games, including a first-round GLVC Tournament win at Quincy. The group is led by the senior All-GLVC backcourt of point guard Brandon Lockhart and shooting guard Alex Hall, who are entering their fourth season of starting together. Hall led the Panthers with his 15.8 points per game last season, while Lockhart added 13.3 points. Junior forward Ian Carter was a key for DU down the stretch last season, averaging 15.8 points and 6.7 rebounds over his final six games to finish with averages of 9.4 points and 5.5 rebounds. Junior forward Mael Amenyedzi and freshman guard Kameron Bundy, a former Nixa standout, are among the newcomers expected to contribute immediately, while sophomores Cameron Adams, Drake Patterson, Derek Daniels and Josh Buie all are a year wiser in Hesser’s system. ABOUT THE EAGLES University of the Ozarks finished 9-16 last season, but fourth-year coach Doug Boxell’s Eagles return their top two scorers in 6-5 senior Ronnie Dodd (15.0 points, 6.4 rebounds) and 6-4 senior Marcus Bobb (14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds). The 20-man roster for the Eagles includes 16 Texans; Boxell won five state championships in Texas as a high school coach. ALSO ... The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday at The O’ in the annual Bank of Bolivar/Highway 13 Catfight with rival Southwest Baptist. The doubleheader tips off at 5:30 p.m. with the women’s game, followed by the Panthers and Bearcats doing battle at 7:45. ... Hall enters the season ranked No. 15 on the DU all-time scoring list with 1,489 points. He needs 19 points to pass Philip Mooberry (1,508 from 1992-95) for 14th place.
