EVALUACION FINAL I) TRUE OR FALSE 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
The use of weak forms is a common feature of spoken English. In regular speech, both content and structural words share the same amount of prominence. Elision, vowel obscuration, vowel reduction and compression are instances of weak forms. The auxiliary verb “has” has four weak forms. Spanish learners of English tend to produce strong vowels in non-prominent positions.
6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
Neutralized English vowels [ i ] and [ u ] are variants of English vowel phonemes /ɪ/ and /ʊ/. The faster the delivery rate of speech is the greater the amount of weak forms a speaker produces. Vowel length does not affect prominence. Spanish speakers do not produce weak vowels. Elision of sounds is considered as substandard in Spanish but not in colloquial English.
11. 12. 13. 14. 15.
None of English weak vowels /ɪ ʊ ə/ can occur in prominent syllables. All syllables in English have the same prominence. English rhythm is stressed time which means that stressed syllables come at regular intervals. Structural words can never be prominent. Prominence is only produced by making a syllable more loudly.

IV) WEAK VOWELS. Transcribe the weak vowels of structural words and non-prominent syllables of content words.
A descriptive grammar looks at the way a language is actually used by its speakers and then attempts to analyse it and formulate rules about the structure. Descriptive grammar does not deal with what is good or bad language use .
V) NON-NATIVE SPEAKER OF ENGLISH. Identify the absence of weak forms in the highlighted words. Provide the speaker´s version and the expected version.
