TOWN OF CHAPIN SOUTH CAROLINA

ORDINANCE NO. 017-07-2017

AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH CANDIDATE FILING FEES FOR THE OFFICES OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBER CHAPTER 2 - ARTICLE 3 – SECTION 2.309 WHEREAS, the Town of Chapin, SC currently does not require a candidate who wishes to place his or her name on the election ballot for a municipal election to pay a filing fee; and WHEREAS, Council of the Town of Chapin has agreed that a filing fee for the offices of Mayor and Council Member should be established to help offset the cost of staff time and the provision of materials necessary to conduct the procedure of qualifying candidates for municipal elections; and WHEREAS, Town Council of the Town of Chapin desires to establish the candidate filing fees for the Office of Mayor at fifty dollars ($50.00) and the Office of Council Member at twenty-five dollars ($25.00). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Chapin, in Council, duly assembled, to amend Chapter 2, Article 3, Section 2.309 to read as follows: 2.309. Same. Filing Fees. Candidates must qualify to have their names placed upon the ballot by filing a statement of candidacy with the Lexington County Election Commission and paying a filing fee of fifty dollars ($50.00) for the Office of Mayor and twenty-five ($25.00) for the Office of Council Member, at least sixty (60) days prior to the election in which he or she wishes to be a candidate. Such statement shall contain the candidate’s signature as he or she wishes his or her name to appear on the ballot, the office for which he or she is qualifying, his or her address of record, and voter registration number.
