DESCRIPTION OF AVAILABLE POSITION POSITION TITLE: Field Research Assistant, Contract Research Farm JOB POSTING DATE: June 2017 LOCATION: Watsonville, California EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time, wage commensurate with education and experience JOB DESCRIPTION: The field research assistant is responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Specific Responsibilities
Contract research experimental design Follow approved protocols and maps Manage schedules to ensure all activities are carried out in a timely manner Application of experimental treatments which may include pre plant soil injections, in season pesticide sprays and other experiments Assessment of plant disease or pest incidence and severity Assessment plant vigor and other traits such as flower and runner production Post-harvest fruit quality assessments Soil and plant sample collection and analysis Coordination with cooperating growers and field managers Training field workers in fruit harvest and yield data collection Data collection, entry, analysis and reporting of research work Documentation of procedures, research activities and results Travel to field trial locations, including long drives and overnight trips Manage field labor to ensure proper field set up and maintenance of experiments Meet with clients to tour field trials and present results Compliance with regulatory bodies including documentation and inspections.
Requirements:
A BS in agricultural or biological sciences plus some practical experience in a field or lab setting, or 3 years of experience in agricultural research in lieu of a BS degree Must have the ability to work safely with chemicals, follow good laboratory practice standards, keep accurate and detailed records of all research operations and work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team on larger research projects. Willingness to travel regularly including out of state trips which may last a week or more at a time. A valid driver’s license English and Spanish language skills.
