Freshman Football Parent Information Sheet Staff: Joe Schertz—Head Coach ([email protected]), Chris Wells, Rob Keane, Mike Ream, Ryan Wilhelmi Equipment: The high school will supply the helmet, mouth piece, shoulder pads, practice and game pants, practice and game jerseys, belt, and knee pads. The athlete is responsible for cleats, girdle (contains hip, tail, and thigh pads), and all other clothing or gear. Practice: All practices are mandatory and athletes are expected to be on-time. Attached you will find a calendar that has game and practice times. These times are subject to change. If the times do change, we will inform the athlete. Transportation can sometimes be an issue, if it is an issue, setting up a carpool for transportation can be an excellent solution. ***If a student is absent to school he cannot play/practice unless given permission from the athletic office. Absence Policy Tardy-If the athlete arrives to practice late with a pass from a teacher, he will not be marked tardy. The athlete is late to practice without a pass from a teacher. Teacher detentions are considered tardy. ***On the 3rd offense and each offense thereafter, the athlete will receive a half game suspension. Absent excused-Athlete is marked absent excused from school or parent has contacted me prior to or the same day of the absence. I can be contacted through e-mail ([email protected]), phone (815)-436-3200 ext. 5855, or voicemail 815-436-3200 ext, 812718. Examples of excused absences include sickness, doctor’s appointment, or an unforeseen event. ***If an athlete misses more than 50% of the practices in a week, then the athlete will not be able to play or dress in the next game. Absent unexcused-Athlete is marked absent unexcused from school or information regarding the practice is not communicated from the parent to me. Athlete will receive a half game suspension for the 1st offense, a 1 game suspension for the second offense, the athlete will be dismissed from the team after the 3rd offense. ****After the 3rd unexcused absence, the athlete will be dismissed from the team. Playing Time: If you or your child has concerns over playing time, the athlete should immediately discuss this with his position coach and then with me. If there is not satisfaction from the first two conversations then the athlete, parent, position coach, and I will sit down for a face-to-face meeting to discuss playing time.

Injuries: Unfortunately, injuries are a reality with any contact sport. We as coaches will minimize unnecessary or dangerous activities that lead to injury. Most injuries encountered on the football field are minor and can be taken care of by our training staff on the field without loss of practice or playing time. More serious injuries may require an athlete to miss part or all of a practice(s) or even a game. Should an athlete have a more serious injury, the athlete should still report to practice for two reasons, first, because our training staff can provide therapy for the injury and second, because the athlete can still mentally participate in practice. If an athlete is seriously injured during a practice or a game, our training staff or a member of the coaching staff will notify you of the incident. Should your child require a doctor’s visit for an illness or injury, he needs to bring a doctor’s note specifying when he can return practice.

Hazing Hazing will not be tolerated. We as coaches will take the appropriate steps to report any hazing that we encounter to the Head Coach and to the athletic director. Please let us know if you hear of any hazing or misconduct. Behavior Your child is expected to abide by all rules set forth in the student handbook. In addition, we will not tolerate back talk, insubordination, and general disrespect. If an athlete exhibits these behaviors, we may warn or ask the athlete to leave the practice field (depending of the severity of the offense). If the athlete is asked to leave practice, it will count as an unexcused absence.
