A note From Fr. Hank
Year C Dear Friends,
According to history or legend or both, his body was taken to the Mediterranean Sea, placed in a stone boat with no sail and cast off. The boat and body eventually drifted ashore in what we call Spain. The body was hidden and remained so for the next 800 years. Some mysteriously “dancing stars” eventually led a hermit to their location. That place became known as Santiago (Saint James) de Campostela (campo/field, stella/stars).

It all began as Jesus walked along the shore of the Galilee Sea. First, he called Simon Andrew and then a little further on, He saw James and John, Zebedee’s sons, repairing nets. He called them and they followed leaving their dad behind in the boat with the hired hands. James has the dubious honor of being the first Apostle martyred. He was beheaded by King Herod in 44 A.D.
It became one of the three most important sites for Christian pilgrimages. The other two were/are Jerusalem and Rome, where Peter and Paul’s remains are located. Millions of pilgrims have travelled across Europe to Santiago de Compestela; Continued on page 5

“ Oh God of unchangeable power and eternal light: Look favorably on your whole Church, that wonderful and sacred mystery; by the effectual working of your providence, carry out in tranquility the plan of salvation; let the whole world see and know that things which were cast down are being raised up, and things which had grown old are being made new, and that all things are being brought to perfection by him through whom all things were made, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen” Page 2

Fr. Hank’s message continued from page 1 So many, in fact, that the primary route from France through Spain became known as The Way. In May, I will be making a pilgrimage on The Way. On Mat 1st, I’ll arrive in Madrid, take the train to Leon and will begin a walk/pilgrimage to Santiago de Compestela. My pilgrimage will be about 200 miles. I expect/plan/hope to arrive there May 17th and fly home the next day. It goes without saying that I will be taking you all with me. Please keep Kathrine, Sam, Lily and me in your prayers. I’ll try to send news from time to time. Great Blessings, Hank+
