MC: 1.G.1

Today, I will identify and describe shapes.

Vocabulary

Notes

Plane shapes: Shapes that have a flat surface and are closed. They can have sides and vertices. Vertex: the common point where two lines meet; a corner Vertices: more than one vertex Hexagon: a flat, closed, 6-sided shape with 6 vertices

Trapezoid: a flat, closed, 4-sided shape with 4 vertices

Circle: a flat, closed, 0-sided shape with no vertices. A half circle is half of a circle. A quarter circle is half of half of a circle.

Right angle: a 90˚ angle formed by two perpendicular lines

/ Directions: Name the following plane shapes and then record the number of sides and vertices.

1. Name of plane shape Number of sides Number of vertices

2. Name of plane shape Number of sides Number of vertices
