OATMEAL – Stove Top
Here’s how to cook one serving of oatmeal on the stove top. ______1.
Get liquid measuring cup. Get water. Get pot. Get 1/2 cup dry measuring cup. Get old fashioned oats. Get long handled spoon.

Measure 1 cup water.

Put water into pot.

Put pot on to stove.

Turn on stove to medium.

Boil water.

Measure 1/2 cup oats.

Careful!
Put oats into pot.

Boil again – about 5 minutes. Careful! Stir.

Turn off stove.

Get a clean liquid measuring cup, water from a faucet, a clean pot for cooking, a clean, one half cup dry measuring cup, old fashioned oats, and a clean, long handled spoon for stirring and serving.

Measure 1 cup water. Using the liquid measuring cup, measure one cup of water.

Put water into pot. Put the water from the measuring cup into the pot.

Put pot on to stove. Put the pot on to a stove burner.

Turn on stove to medium. Turn on the stove burner to a medium heat.

Boil water. Heat the water until it reaches a boil.

Measure 1/2 cup oats. Using the dry measuring cup, measure one half cup of oats.

Careful! Put oats into pot. Using your one hand, hold the handle of the pot so that it’s steady and safe. Using your other hand, and being very careful, add the oats to the pot of boiling water. It’s important to add the oats as carefully as possible to avoid any splashing. The oats will cool off the water and it may take a minute or two for the water to reach a boil again.

Boil again – 5 minutes. Careful! Stir. Heat the water until it reaches a boil and let it boil for about five minutes. Every one to two minutes, use the long handled spoon to carefully stir the oats in the pot.
______10. Turn off stove. Turn off the stove burner. ______11. Stir. Using the long handled spoon, stir the oatmeal.

Here’s how to make one bowl (one serving) of oatmeal in the microwave oven. ______1.

Get microwave safe bowl. Get 1/2 cup dry measuring cup. Get old fashioned oats. Get liquid measuring cup. Get water. Get potholders. Get spoon. Measure 1/2 cup oats.

Put oats into bowl.

Measure 1 cup water.

Put water into bowl.

Open microwave. Put bowl in.

Close microwave.

Set microwave for full power – 3 minutes. Start.

Take bowl out of microwave.

Put oats into bowl. Put the oats from the measuring cup into the bowl.

Measure 1 cup water. Using the liquid measuring cup and water from the faucet, measure one cup of water.

Put water into bowl. Put the water from the measuring cup into the bowl with the oats.

Open microwave. Put bowl in. Open the microwave oven door. Put the bowl into the microwave oven.

Set microwave for full power – 3 minutes. Start. Set the microwave oven cook timer for three minutes at full power. Start the microwave oven.

______10. Put on potholders. Put the potholders on to your hands as an extra precaution. ______11. Careful! Take bowl out of microwave. Using your hands, carefully take the bowl out of the microwave oven and put it on to a safe surface. ______12. Close microwave. Close the microwave oven door. ______13. Take off potholders. Take the potholders off of your hands. ______14. Careful! Stir oatmeal. Using your one hand, hold the bowl so that it is steady and safe. Using your other hand and the spoon, stir the oatmeal.
