June 2015 Dear Parent /Guardian, I am writing to inform you about some important events, which will be taking place for our Y12 students before the end of the academic year. Friday 19th June AM only: What does a good CV looks like? / Life after Sixth Form The morning will begin with a formal presentation about CV writing followed by an opportunity for students to prepare their own CV and get support from our Connexions advisor. Dr Asif, a former S.Peter’s sixth form student will join us after break to talk to students about his journey from A levels to his recent qualification as a doctor. Information about careers in the medical field will also form part of his presentation. Friday 26th June: Higher Education UCAS Convention – Aston University. This is an ideal opportunity for students to further their research and gain valuable advice and information about higher education courses. Over 130 universities, colleges and other related stands will be represented throughout the day. Students are given one day “off timetable” to attend the UCAS convention. Students are asked to make their own way to Aston University and will be expected to complete some research in preparation for the event. The dress code is smart casual. Students will need to purchase their own return tickets, at the approximate off-peak cost of around £6. Lunch can be purchased from the restaurant facilities at the university. Although this is not an officially organised school visit, an attendance register will be taken at 10am at the venue. Students will be free to make their own way home once they have collected sufficient information to support their future decisions. Although every care will be taken to ensure the safety of students during school visits there is always an element of risk. You may wish, therefore, to take out additional cover for accident or loss of/damage to property as an additional safeguard.

Staff INSET days: Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th July All Y12 students will be working from home or taking the opportunity to attend university open days. We have encouraged students to check, on a regular basis, the calendar of university open days on the opendays.com website. It is important that they take the opportunity to attend as many open days as possible during this less busy period of the year. Students have been made aware of the procedure for applying for an open day visit and should only book their place once they have received our approval. Wednesday 8th to Friday 10th July: Future Pathways presentations and workshops. To support our students further as they begin to plan for their future after A levels, we have organised a selection of presentations / workshops, which will take place in school. A full programme of events with timings is attached to this letter for your perusal.

Additional events: I also would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the following events which have been planned: Wednesday 15th July: Annual Sixth Form visit to Alton Towers Wednesday 14th October: Sixth Form to University transition day – Staffordshire University will be delivering, on the Stafford campus, a range of presentations to include: note taking, researching and referencing. Students will also be invited to sample a range of subjects. Further information will be given closer to the day. Please complete the reply slip and return it to Ms P Smith in the Sixth Form office no later than Friday 19th June. If you have any questions concerning any of the proposed activities outlined in this letter, or any other general questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support this year. Yours sincerely,

Mrs M-T Rollins Assistant Principal / Director of Sixth Form Studies [email protected]
