LOCAL NEWS & UPDATES
February 2016 @hackney_cycling www.facebook.com/Hackneycyclingcampaign lcc.org.uk/boroughs/hackney http://www.hackney-cyclists.org.uk/
Dear Members, We have had a very busy start to the year, with a number of consultations and campaigns getting under way. As ever, we would love to hear from you and if you want to get involved please do.
Hackney Cycling Survey 2016: Cycling in Hackney: tell us about the good, the bad and the ugly Hackney Cycling Campaign is running a survey to find out about the places YOU want us to campaign to improve over the coming years. We also want to know what people think works well for cycling, to help us highlight existing good practice examples that could be used elsewhere in the borough. The survey only takes ten minutes to complete - feel free to pass it onto your friends who live or work in Hackney, whether they cycle or not. You can fill it in at www.tinyurl.com/hackneycyclingsurvey (NB if you've already completed the LCC's Sign for Cycling Survey, your responses will already have been taken into account, no need to fill in another one).
Cyclescape: As part of our consultation responses, Hackney Cycling has recently begun trialling a website called Cyclescape. We have our own page here: http://lccih.cyclescape.org/ It requires creating a login, after which members can see all the current consultations as well as historical ones. We feel it is important for all members to be able to contribute to plans and schemes that affect the borough
Consultations: Seven Sisters Road: A joint consultation has been launched by Hackney Council, TfL and Berkley homes in relation to part of Seven Sisters Road N4 between the Amhurst Road Jct and Manor House. The scheme is at early design, and there are 6 ‘ideas’ being presented. Idea 5 shown here, includes wider pavements, protected cycle tracks and bus priority. Idea 3 includes more crossing points. Please have your say before the 9th March deadline! http://www.sevensistersroad.co.uk/ ‘Idea 5’ visual for Seven Sisters Road
Lower Clapton Road: TfL are currently consulting on a scheme to change the junction with Urswick Road and Lower Clapton. They are proposing an ‘informal roundabout’ with no formal pedestrian crossing points. The scheme does not include any protected space for cycling. The scheme has had a mixed response from members so far. We will be publishing our formal response soon, but you can have your say here: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/lower-clapton-road/consult_view
London Fields & Quietway: We currently have an opportunity to improve the London Fields area for residents and visitors by completing Hackney Council’s consultation. Filtering the London Fields area was a ward ask for two wards as part of the 2014 #space4cycling campaign which received universal commitment from local councilors in the area. We believe that option 1 of those available offers the area significant benefits, not just for cycling, but the wider community. •
Create a safer environment, encouraging active travel
•
Build closer and calmer communities, as less through traffic encourages neighbours to meet, talk, socialise and play
•
Improve the environment by reducing motor traffic journeys
•
Encourage healthier lives for more people

[email protected] Sign for Cycling: In May 2016, London elects its next Mayor. LCC has just launched its biggest campaign yet, Sign for Cycling. We want London’s next Mayor to make cycling safe and enjoyable for everyone. They must create more space for cycling, encourage more local journeys to be made by bike, and tackle lorry danger. You can tell the Mayoral candidates that you want a city that is greener, healthier and easier to get about. Please sign the petition today: www.signforcycling.org
