INTRAMURALS IM INDOOR SOCCER RULES MENS/WOMENS/COREC ELIGIBILITY 1. Any current full-time or part-time student at Fresno State are eligible. Any Faculty and Staff who want to play must purchase a $ 25.00 Intramural Participation Card for each semester in which they wish to participate. 2. Every player MUST present a valid Fresno State ID card to the supervisor in charge of the field before EVERY game. 3. Current intercollegiate athletes are ineligible to compete in the same or related sport. 4. Members of sport clubs are allowed to participate in the respective intramural sport, however, a maximum of two sport club members are allowed on any one intramural team. You are considered a sport club member for 1-year after your sport club membership ends. 5. Each team must declare a team captain. Captains or a representative of each team MUST attend a designated captain’s meeting. Failure to attend a captain’s meeting will result in a forfeit. Participants are allowed to sign up as free agents and must attend a separate free agent meeting where they will be assigned a team. Failure to appear to a free agent meeting may result in removal from league. 6. Every team will get one late game that they will be able to use throughout the entire season. If a team decides to use their late game they will get an additional 5 minutes before the start of the contest. Each team will also be allowed two forfeits throughout the season, on the third, the team will lose eligibility for the tournament. 7. Participants must play in two (2) league games to be eligible to play in tournament games. SPORTSMANSHIP 1. Sportsmanship is everyone’s responsibility. We hope that everyone will conduct him or herself in a mature and friendly manner. Unsportsmanlike behavior may be called on any participant, substitute, or spectator. Team captains/managers are responsible for
the conduct of their players and spectators. The teams will be issued technical fouls, yellow cards, and red cards for the unruly spectators that cannot be kept under control. 2. A yellow/red card system will be used to monitor unsportsmanlike behavior, rough play, and improper conduct. A participant who receives a yellow card will be required to sit out for two minutes of game time. A participant who receives a red card shall be ejected from the game and will need to leave the field before play resumes. A team with a carded player will be required to play with one less player until the penalty time has expired (Yellow = 2 minutes & Red = 4 minutes). If a player is carded and refuses to tell his/her name, the game will be forfeited. Spectators may be issued a yellow or red card and asked to leave if necessary. 3. TRASH: If a team leaves any trash on their field they will be given a 3 in sportsmanship. Each team is responsible for leaving the field cleaner than when they arrived. 4. Spectators may be issued a yellow or red card and asked to leave if necessary. The card and its ensuing penalty will be assessed to the captain of the team. 5. No jewelry may be worn at anytime including: hats, sleeves, glasses, baller bands, necklaces, sunglasses, watches, earrings or any other piercings. If it is not naturally part of your body it can not be worn in a game. ONLY true sweatbands may be worn. A substitute may check in with the scorer’s table and replace the player in violation. 6. Penalties for rough play are sport specific and will be enforced in addition to unsportsmanlike penalties. The following is an example list of yellow/red card offenses for coed soccer:
Yellow Card--- Non-directional profanity; arguing with officials; unnecessary contact; taunting opponents, sideline interference, tripping, kicking.
Red Card--- Directional profanity; flagrant contact; fighting, charging goalie.
Yellow/Red Card Point System:
Individual - Yellow card (1 pt each) = a two-minute power play + point/side-out is awarded the opponent. - 2 yellow cards in one game = *the player is eliminated from the rest of the game. - Total of 2 yellow cards received in different games = player may finish the game that the second yellow card is received in. - Red card (2 pts each) = ejection from game, four-minute power play + point/side-out is awarded the opponent.
If a player receives a total of 2 points (two yellow cards or one red card) anytime during the regular season or tournament, the player will be placed on temporary probation until he/she meets with the program coordinator in charge of the activity.
If a team receives a total of 4 yellow/red card points anytime during regular season or tournament, a letter will be sent to the team captain to inform him/her of their intramural team status. Teams with four points may be either dropped from further play or be placed on warning. Teams on warning will be dropped from further play immediately, if another yellow or red card is given to any team member. EQUIPMENT 1. Only official IM soccer ball will be used, unless both teams agree to use a different ball. If there is any disagreement, the IM soccer ball. 2. Appropriate soccer attire is required. No boots or shoes with marking soles are allowed. No jean shorts or cutoffs. 3. No jewelry may be worn at any time including: hats, sleeves, glasses, baller bands, necklaces, sunglasses, watches, earrings or any other piercings. If it is not naturally part of your body it cannot be worn in a game. ONLY true sweatbands may be worn. The player is subject to a personal foul for violation of the rule and has to sub off the court. A substitute may check in with the scorer’s table and replace the player in violation. GAME RESET 1. Each game will consist of two 20-minute halves. 2. There will be a two-minute halftime. 3. In the event of a tie game, during regular season play, the game will stand as a tie and each team will be credited with a win. During tournament play, in the event of a tie game, overtime will be played. The overtime period will last 3 minutes. If a tie still exists, another overtime is played until a winner is determined. 4. Each team will be composed of 4 (minimum) to 5 (maximum) players. Coed games need 3 males and 1female to start. (No limit on the number of females on the courts). Rosters will be limited to 12 players. SOCCER RULES *Intramural soccer play abides by the National Federation of High School Associations Rules for the 2014-2015 seasons with the following exceptions: 1. NO CLEATS, indoor soccer or athletic non- marking soled shoes are required. 2. Mercy Rule: If one team is ahead by five goals with five minutes left to play, the game will be ended. 3. The offside rule will not be in effect. 4. There will be no sliding or slide tackling from any direction allowed. If a referee decides a player did make the motion to slide or slide tackle, the player will receive a yellow card. 5. No KEEPER will be used.
6. There will be no direct kicks. All kicks will be in-direct. 7. A penalty that occurs between the free throw line and the 3 point arc down to the baseline will result in an “indirect” kick from the free throw line. 8. If hands are used to prevent a goal, the player will be issued a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct. If the referee believes that the ball would have gone in the goal without the use of the players’ hands, the goal will be counted and the defensive player will still receive a yellow card. 9. The “wall” must be 1 yard back from the spot of the foul. Members in the “wall” may not move until the ball has been touched. 10. All out of bounds balls will be “kicked in”. No throw-ins. 11. On a goal kick the ball needs to be placed within 5 yards of the baseline.
DEFINITIONS BALL OUT OF PLAY The ball is out of play when it has completely crossed the goal line or sideline, whether on the ground or in the air. The ball is in play at all other times including: -If it rebounds from a goal post, crossbar, or corner flag post into the field of play. -Until an official sounds the whistle. -When it touches an official or line judge in the field of play.
DROP BALL A drop ball occurs: -When the ball is caused to go out-of-bounds by 2 opponents simultaneously. -Following a temporary suspension of play for an injury or unusual situation and no team has clear possession of the ball. -When a simultaneous foul of the same degree occurs by opponents. The ball is considered in play once it has touched the ground and cannot be played before then.
PENALTY KICK A penalty kick shall be taken from the free throw line and when it is being taken, all players, with exception of the player taking the kick, shall be within the field of play, but outside the penalty area, and at least 10 yards from the penalty marker. The opposing goalkeeper must stand on his own goal line, between the goal posts until the ball is kicked.
GOAL KICK When the attacking team causes the whole of the ball to pass over the goal line, other than the area between the goal posts and under the crossbar, either in the air or on the ground, a player on the defending team shall kick the ball from any point within the goal area. A goal kick shall clear the penalty area and enter the field of play. In the event it does not, the goal kick shall be repeated.
CORNER KICK When the defending team causes the whole of the ball to pass over the goal line, other than the area between the goal posts and under the crossbar, either in the air or on the ground, a
member of the attacking team shall take a throw-in from the nearest corner of the field. A goal cannot be scored directly from the throw-in.
