NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release County Engineer’s Announces Upcoming Watkins Road Bridge Closure Date: August 7, 2017
Union County Engineer Jeff Stauch announced today that the Watkins Road Bridge in Millcreek Township will be under construction beginning August 14, 2017. The bridge spans a tributary of Mill Creek between Beecher Gamble and Bellepoint Roads. J&J Schlaegel of Urbana, Ohio, who was awarded the $508,000 contract, will replace the outdated structure, with a new single-span bridge on reinforced concrete abutments. State funds will cover 43% of the construction cost while revenue from the County Engineer’s share of the 1/4% sales tax will make up the rest. This 75-day bridge closure is expected to be completed by November 1st. An aerial of the project site is included in this release. Local traffic will be maintained and detour signs will be posted.
