Rockets vs. Royals Wednesday March 16, 2016 Game Time – 7:05 pm Tonight’s Preview: It is the final week of the regular season. With three games remaining, the Kelowna Rockets welcome the Victoria Royals to Prospera Place. These are the top two teams in the Western Conference and have a combined record of 93-35-7-3. The Rockets are 3-4-0-0 in the seven games, having won by scores of 2-1 (in overtime), 3-1 and 5-4. The Royals have out-scored the Rockets 22-15 overall. The Rockets penalty killing unit has been terrific in the seasonal series, killing off 26 of 29 power play chances. The Rockets have had 14 more power play opportunities than Victoria. Wednesday, March 16th at Kelowna Rockets CENTURY CLASS: With the win on Sunday, the Victoria Royals tied their single season franchise point record at 100. During 2013-14 season, the club also finished with 100 points and held a mark of 48-20-1-3 in the process. This season, Victoria is the first team in the Western Hockey League to reach the 100-point plateau. TALE OF TWO CITIES: The Royals currently boast a 22-10-2-0 record on the road, good for the top winning percentage (67.6%) in the Western Conference and trail only the Brandon Wheat Kings (68.1%) for the league lead. The Rockets meanwhile, hold an 80.9% winning percentage at home to go with a 26-5-3-0 record, with two of those losses coming to Victoria. This season, the Royals have scored a total of 116 goals on the road, while Kelowna has totaled 129 markers on home ice. IT'S A NUMBERS GAME: The Royals have allowed 37 powerplay goals, and have tallied 11 shorthanded markers this season, good for a -26 rating when on the penalty kill. This is the best mark in the WHL since the Portland Winterhawks posted a -23 rating during the 2012-13 season. Victoria's Tyler Soy leads the club with six shorthanded goals, which is the third most in the league. THE INTERNATIONAL LINE: In Sunday’s 4-3 victory against the Prince George Cougars, the Royals’ Vladimir Bobylev and Jack Walker each tallied a marker in the first period. During Victoria’s last 15 games, the line consisting of Tyler Soy, Walker, and Bobylev have scored 42 of the Royals’ 74 goals (56.7%) that includes 26 of 54 (48.1%) in Victoria’s current 10 game winning streak. This season, the trio has marked 37.5% (100/266) of Victoria’s total goals for. POWERPLAY MAGIC: With a tally on the man-advantage last game, the Royals have now gone on the longest powerplay goal streak of the season at eight contests.
