KNITTING CLASSES NEXT STEP KNITTING—Have you completed that Beginning Knitting class? Ready for the next step? This class is perfect for you! You’ve learned to cast-on, knit, purl and bind off. In this class we’ll take your knitting to the next level. You’ll learn an additional, popular caston, how to increase and decrease using multiple options, and how to rib. We’ll also touch on the importance of gauge, and talk about pattern reading. Prerequisites: For the beginner who has successfully completed a beginning knitting class. FROM RIGHT TO LEFT—LEARN TO KNIT CONTINENTAL—Have you always envied that person who whips through their projects and noticed that they hold the yarn in their LEFT hand instead of right? Are you ready to try it? This class is for proficient knitters who “throw” the yarn with their right hand, but want to knit faster and more ergonomically. This is a great skill for ribbed knitting as it is MUCH faster. Prerequisites: For the proficient knitter who is ready for a change! Teacher: Diane Jespersen Saturday, Feb. 20, 10am-12noon, $20

MY FIRST SHAWL—Are you ready for your first lace project? We have just the project for you. This is a complete kit with yarn and detailed instructions. Janet will take you through how to complete this luscious shawl in three easy steps, and then you’ll be on your way to mastering lace! Prerequisites: For the advanced beginner who knows how to cast on, knit, purl, cast off and read basic pattern instructions. Teacher: Janet Gibson Wednesday Jan. 13, 27 & Feb. 10, 3-5pm, $40

TOP-DOWN SOCK USING MAGIC LOOP -- Ready to learn magic loop? Want to learn how to make socks, too? This class will cover the basic parts of a classic top-down sock with heel flap and gusset. As an added bonus, you will also learn how to knit using the magic loop method. Students will complete a classic, wellfitting sock using sock (fingering) weight yarn and a circular needle. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, consistently work to gauge, and read basic pattern instructions. LACE BASICS—Afraid of lace knitting? It’s time to get rid of those fears and tackle a simple project that will teach you to master lace! You will receive a lace scarf/ stole pattern at class. You will learn how to read a lace chart, use a life line, as well as lace stitches—a mix of increases and decreases. This pattern can be made with lace weight up to worsted weight yarn. Prerequisites: For the advanced beginner who knows how to cast on, knit, purl, cast off and read basic pattern instructions. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Tuesday, Jan 19, 6-8pm, $20 ELIZABETH ZIMMERMAN’S BABY SURPRISE JACKET—Are you looking for a simple, yet satisfying project to make for a special baby? This design is pure genius, once you know the ins and outs of the pattern. You will learn the increases, decreases, buttonholes, and pick up stitches needed to successfully complete the project. This little gem is a hit at baby showers, and is very addictive-you’ll want to make one in every color! Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to long tail cast on, bind off, knit, purl, consistently work to gauge and read basic knitting instructions. BEGINNING KNITTING—This two-week series is for the absolute beginner and those who need a refresher. The course will cover casting on, knit, purl, simple stitch patterns, increase, decrease, fixing simple mistakes and binding off. Our project will be a dishcloth out of cotton yarn. Teacher: Janet Gibson Thursday, Jan. 14 & 21, 5-7pm, $30 Monday, Feb. 15 & 22, 1-3pm, $30 DROPPED AND FOUND WRAP — This project looks quite intriguing, but is so easy to accomplish. Come join us to learn the techniques you need to make this beautiful wrap, all in one two-hour class. It’s just that easy! In class, you’ll learn the long-tail cast on, how to drop and then pick up stitches, and to finish with a single-crochet edge. You’ll be ready for the cold winter months all wrapped up in this beauty. Prerequisites: For the advanced beginner who knows how to cast on, knit, purl, cast off and read basic pattern instructions. MAGIC LOOP TOE-UP SOCKS (2 AT A TIME)—This class will teach you how to make socks using the magic loop method from the toe up. Both socks are made at the same time. You will learn the Turkish cast-on for a seamless toe, a very simple short-row heel method, and Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Sewn bind off. After completing this course, you will be able to use these three skills for almost any sock design you desire. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who is proficient at knitting and purling, increasing and decreasing. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Wednesday, Feb. 3, 17 & Mar. 2, 6-8pm, $40

**NEW**KNOCKOUT KNITS—DROPPED STITCH SERIES—Come join Lorrie for this new series of classes from Laura Nelkin’s book, Knockout Knits. Create three great projects from part one of the book: Prolix Mitts, Folly Cloche, and Las Cruces Shawl (2 sessions). Prerequisites: For the advanced beginner comfortable with knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, and reading knitting patterns. CROCHET CLASSES BEGINNING CROCHET— Learn the basics of crochet while making a darling baby blanket in this two-week class. Great class for beginners and those needing a little refresher, perfect for the knitter who wants to learn crochet. The course will cover several basic crochet stitches. Teacher: Polly Rodberg Wednesday, Jan. 13 & 20, 10am-12noon, $30 Saturday, Feb. 20 & 27, 2-4pm, $30 **NEW ONE-SKEIN WONDERS CROCHET-A-LONG— SIX MONTH SERIES—Once again, we are going to offer this great series for people who have completed beginning crochet class and want to learn new skills. There will be a variety of projects that allow students to gain experience with all different yarns and crochet techniques. This class is perfect as a refresher, too. Prerequisites: For the crocheter who has successfully completed a beginning crochet class and is ready to advance their skill level. Teachers: Lorrie and Polly 2nd Thursday of each month thru June, 5:30-7:30pm $30 for six sessions January 14—Mobius Cowl February 11—Ribbed Wristlets **NEW**—CROCHET-A-LONG AFGHAN—You asked for it, we listened. We’re bringing back a favorite! From the book 101 Crochet Stitch Patterns & Edgings, this afghan offers the chance to make many different crochet patterns and assemble them into one cozy blanket. The patterns are beginner friendly, so get a friend to come along with you on a fun crochet journey! Prerequisites: This is great for beginners to up their skills. Must have successfully completed a beginning crochet class. FREE EVENT — CROCHET-A-LONG (CAL) SWEATER— Join Lorrie for a fun, crochet-a-long this winter. By the time you’re done, winter will be almost over and you’ll have a beautiful sweater to wear or give as a gift. Lorrie will guide you through Kram Cardi by Katy Petersen over 5 Saturday mornings. This CAL is recommended for the intermediate crocheter who has experience with various stitches and is comfortable reading patterns. Come join us and help winter wiz by! MAKE IT & TAKE IT CLASS Make your own beaded stitch markers! Join Lorrie Saturday, January 30, from 10am-11am, for a fun crafting experience! You’ll leave with a set of 14 pretty, beaded stitch markers you can use yourself or gift to a friend who knits. No experience necessary. Teacher: Lorrie Hanlon Saturday, Jan. 30, 10-11am, $10—includes supplies.

About Our Classes To sign up for a class, please pre-register to reserve your space. Payment must be received at time of registration. Refunds are available up to 48 hours before the first class session. In fairness to the teachers and other students who have purchased their supplies, we are unable to make refunds after that time. Supplies are needed for all classes and a supply list will be furnished when you register. The class fee covers instruction only. You will receive a 10% discount on all supplies needed for the class. We would appreciate it if you select Knitting Next Door for your supplies. Due to student and teacher allergies, please refrain from wearing perfumes and scented lotions to class.
