KNITTING CLASSES **NEW CLASS**HOW TO READ YOUR KNITTING—This class is for the knitter who has gone through the basics and is ready to move forward in the knitting world. You will learn how to “read” your stitches to help you become confident in knowing what’s next, where did I leave off, how do I figure out what I did wrong? Understanding what each type of stitch looks like and how it partners with the next stitch and the last stitch is the key to unlocking a new confidence in your knitting skills. Prerequisites: For the advanced beginner knitter who knows how to cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, read basic knitting instructions and has completed a few projects. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Monday, Aug. 15, 6-8pm, $20 **NEW INSTRUCTIONAL KNIT-A-LONG (KAL) – POSTCARDS TEE—Are you ready to tackle that first piece of clothing? This is the perfect starter. The Postcards Tee is a beautiful shell that offers some great basic sweater techniques, plus a little extra. Diane will lead this instructional KAL that will teach you how to pick up stitches, both in rows and columns, to change colors and directions in your knitted piece, neck shaping, shoulder shaping, and finishing techniques including seaming shoulders, side seams and edging. This will be a 4-week KAL to make the front of the garment, then you will make the identical back on your own. We will then return for one last instructional class to complete the finishing techniques. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, cast off and read pattern instructions. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Tuesdays, Aug. 9, 16, 23, & 30, then Sept. 20, 6-8pm, $40 for all 5 instructional classes GAUGE & BLOCKING FOR KNITTERS—Here’s a class you won’t want to miss! A combo class with a wealth of information. You will learn the importance of making a gauge swatch and how to do it efficiently and accurately. It’s a must for the perfect fitting garment. Then you’ll learn how to block your knitting so it is shaped perfectly to show off the beautiful details you worked so hard to complete. Prerequisites: For any knitter who has successfully completed a beginning knitting class, can cast-on, knit, purl, and bind-off. Teacher: Jean Grapentine Saturday, Aug. 20, 12noon-2pm, $20

TOP-DOWN SOCK USING MAGIC LOOP -- Ready to learn magic loop? Want to learn how to make socks, too? This class will cover the basic parts of a classic top-down sock with heel flap and gusset. As an added bonus, you will also learn how to knit using the magic loop method. Students will complete a classic, well-fitting sock using sock (fingering) weight yarn and a circular needle. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, consistently work to gauge, and read basic pattern instructions. Teacher: Jean Grapentine Monday, July 25, Aug. 8 & 22, 5:30-7:30pm, $40 BEGINNING KNITTING—This two-week series is for the absolute beginner and those who need a refresher. The course will cover casting on, knit, purl, simple stitch patterns, increase, decrease, fixing simple mistakes and binding off. Our project will be a dishcloth out of cotton yarn. Teacher: Janet Gibson Thursday, July 14 & 21, 5-7pm, $30 Monday, Aug. 8 & 15, 1-3pm, $30 BASIC CHRISTMAS STOCKING—Start a creative tradition using a basic Christmas stocking and add your own personal touches to make it extra special. This is a great opportunity to “dip your toe into socks”! You’ll learn how to do an afterthought heal with this class. There will be prerequisite homework for this class. Prerequisites: For the advanced beginning knitter who knows how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, and read basic pattern instructions. Teacher: Polly Rodberg Saturday, Aug. 6, 2-4pm, $20 HOW TO CABLE—Ready to learn how to do cables? You’ll be amazed at how easy this is and it looks like it would be so hard when you see the finished project. In this class, you will learn to cable by making a swatch that can easily be expanded into a scarf. Just one class will get you confidently on your way to accomplishing any cable pattern. Prerequisites: For the confident beginner who knows how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. You should have done a few beginning projects to be ready for this class. MAGIC LOOP TOE-UP SOCKS (2 AT A TIME)—This class will teach you how to make socks using the magic loop method from the toe up. Both socks are made at the same time. You will learn the Turkish cast-on for a seamless toe, a very simple short-row heel method, and Elizabeth Zimmermann’s sewn bind off. After completing this course, you will be able to use these three skills for almost any sock design you desire. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who is proficient at knitting and purling, increasing and decreasing. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Wednesday, Aug. 3, 17, & 31, 3-5pm, $40 NEXT STEP KNITTING—Have you completed that Beginning Knitting class? Ready for the next step? This class is perfect for you! You’ve learned to cast-on, knit, purl and bind off. In this class we’ll take your knitting to the next level. You’ll learn an additional, popular cast-on, how to increase and decrease using multiple options, and how to rib. We’ll also touch on the importance of gauge, and talk about pattern reading. ELIZABETH ZIMMERMAN’S BABY SURPRISE JACKET— Are you looking for a simple, yet satisfying project to make for a special baby? This design is pure genius, once you know the ins and outs of the pattern. You will learn the increases, decreases, buttonholes, and pick up stitches needed to successfully complete the project. This little gem is a hit at baby showers, and is very addictive-you’ll want to make one in every color! Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to long tail cast on, bind off, knit, purl, consistently work to gauge and read basic knitting instructions. CROCHET CLASSES BEGINNING CROCHET— Learn the basics of crochet while making a darling baby blanket in this two-week class. Great class for beginners and those needing a little refresher, perfect for the knitter who wants to learn crochet. The course will cover several basic crochet stitches.
