Machine Quilting Class Supply List Harriet Hargrave

Teacher: Supplies: 

Sewing Machine in top working order, with extension table if available



(Please bring your best machine.)



Feed dog cover if feed dogs do not drop



Straight stitch throat plate (SUGGESTED)



Darning foot or open toe stippling foot (REQUIRED) (Bernina owners please bring #9 and #24 feet)



Walking or Even Feed foot (Pfaff owners please bring open toe appliqué foot.)



2 - 12" or 14" simple pieced blocks – 7x7 block of 2" squares is good



(please no preprinted panels)

NOTE: Suggested pieced blocks could be a simple 7x7 block of 2" squares. Please do not use Log Cabin or 60º diamond blocks. These blocks will be used for ditch quilting, continuous curve, and grid quilting exercises. Need seams that are straight from one side to the opposite side. 

1 - 12" or 14" appliqué block (simple, machine stitched or fused)



Notebook and pen - please no tape recorders



Scotch tape



Extension cord and lamp

These supplies are available from us in a kit: 1. Invisible nylon quilting thread (size .004: Sew Art International brand (preferred) or YLI Wonder thread (OK) 2. 50 weight /3 ply 100% cotton sewing thread (Presencia 50/3 or 60/3) that matches muslin 3. 100% cotton embroidery thread (DMC 50/2, Aurifil 50 or Mettler 60/2): cream color or very pale pastel 4. 8 or more - 14" squares of batting (preferably a variety of fiber contents and thicknesses - to include cotton, polyester, and wool if possible) Happiness Is. . . These supplies are available at the shop: 

Size 70/10 and 75/11 Universal or sharp point machine needles (no ballpoints)



Heirloom Machine Quilting by Harriet Hargrave (4th edition from 2004 preferred)



Basic sewing supplies - thread, scissors, etc.



#1 (1") rustproof safety pins

BEFORE CLASS, mark 2 or 3 14" squares of muslin with as many of the designs in the back of HEIRLOOM MACHINE QUILTING as possible with a washout marker. Smaller designs suggested. Also, mark one square with two sets of designs on page 158 of the 4th edition (blue cover) or page 117 of the 1995 edition (red cover).
