Braking Regulation Changes Reduced Stopping Distance Braking Regulation Phase 1 – Introduced August 1, 2011 required a 250 Foot Stopping Distance for 6x4 Tractors w/ 14.6k or less Front Axle GAWR and 45k or less Rear Axle GAWR. Effective August 1, 2013 Phase 2 is applied. The 250 Foot Stopping Distance requirement is now applied to all Tractors that meet the following conditions. • 4x2 tractors with Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) less than 29,000 lbs • 6x4 tractors with Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) less than 58,000 lbs • 8x6 tractors with Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) less than 87,000 lbs Tractors
Major Changes from Phase 1 to Phase 2 include the following: Addition of 4x2 and 8x6 Tractors to meet Improved Stopping Distance requirement. Front Disc Brakes are required on Tractors w/ 18k or 20k Front Axles and Stopping Distance 250 feet. Tandem Tractors with Rear Gross Axle Rating greater than 45k and less than 58k must now meet 250 foot Stopping Distance requirement. 355 foot Stopping Distance requirement has been removed. Braking Regulation Changes Reduced Stopping Distance Braking Regulation Phase 1 – Introduced August 1, 2011 required a 250 Foot Stopping Distance for 6x4 Tractors w/ 14.6k or less Front Axle GAWR and 45k or less Rear Axle GAWR. Effective August 1, 2013 Phase 2 is applied. The 250 Foot Stopping Distance requirement is now applied to all Tractors that meet the following conditions. • 4x2 tractors with Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) less than 29,000 lbs • 6x4 tractors with Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) less than 58,000 lbs • 8x6 tractors with Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) less than 87,000 lbs Tractors
Major Changes from Phase 1 to Phase 2 include the following: Addition of 4x2 and 8x6 Tractors to meet Improved Stopping Distance requirement. Front Disc Brakes are required on Tractors w/ 18k or 20k Front Axles and Stopping Distance 250 feet. Tandem Tractors with Rear Gross Axle Rating greater than 45k and less than 58k must now meet 250 foot Stopping Distance requirement. 355 foot Stopping Distance requirement has been removed. Additionally: Hendrickson RS, HMX & Mack SW suspensions are Not Available w/ Stopping Distance 250 ft
