SUN DEVIL REWIND
• The Sun Devils inaugural, hybrid NCAA Division I season ended with a 10-235 record overall and 5-22-2 against NCAA opponents. • After having 11 players from the prior ACHA squad on the 2015-16 roster, the Sun Devils return just four -- defensemen DREW NEWMEYER and ED MCGOVERN, forward RYAN BELONGER (transfer from Northeastern) and goaltender ROBERT LEVIN. • Sophomore forward JACK ROWE tallied the program’s first goal against an NCAA opponent when he evened up the score on the power play against Alaska-Anchorage with 3:14 seconds remaining in the 2nd period. • Senior RYAN BELONGER made Sun Devil history in style by scoring the first game-winning goal in NCAA play with 34 seconds left in the game against Alaska-Fairbanks on Oct. 10, 2015. • With that victory, sophomore netminder RYLAND PASHOVITZ picked up the program’s first win after saving 37 shots with one goal against.
TONIGHT’S MATCH-UP
The Sun Devils kick off their first full NCAA Division I season on the road against the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, led by head coach Jeff Jackson entering his 10th season behind the bench. It will be the first match-up between the two schools in men’s ice hockey. ASU, who begins full NCAA play as an independent program, returns 12 players who saw ice time in 2015-16, while adding a total of nine new faces and returning five redshirts. Notre Dame is led by top-returning scorer Anders Bjork, who totaled 12 goals and 23 assists a season ago. In between the pipes, Cal Petersen is widely considered one of the top goaltenders in the NCAA and boasted a 19-11-7 record in 2015-16 -- thus starting every game for the Irish. The Irish have competed in the Hockey East Conference since 2013, and have made the NCAA Tournament in three of the last five seasons -- including 2016. While Notre Dame has not won a Hockey East Conference Championship, they totaled three while in the now dissolved Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The program will join the Big Ten Conference at the start of the 2017-18 season.

BY THE NUMBERS The Sun Devils have their first two players from across the pond, as freshmen GEORGY GORODETSKY (Russia) and JAKOB STRIDSBERG (Sweden) continue to expand ASU’s global student-athlete fingerprint. Between assistant coach ALEX HICKS and strength & conditioning coach GARNET EXELBY, the Sun Devil staff has 28 seasons of professional hockey experience. The 2016-17 roster features 14 new faces that didn’t suit up in the Maroon & Gold last season. The group features eight freshmen, five returning redshirts and one graduate transfer. Three players -- ROBBIE BAILLARGEON, WADE MURPHY and JOEY DACCORD -- represent the first group of NHL drafted student-athletes to skate for ASU in program history. DACCORD is the only one of the three to have been committed to ASU when drafted.

played with redshirt sophomore DYLAN HOLLMAN in 2013-14. • Sophomores JACK ROWE and LIAM MCGING shared ice time together with the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) in 2014-15. The two also were paired up on another USHL squad... • The biggest group of them all featured freshman GEORGY GORODETSKY and sophomores RYLAND PASHOVITZ, JACK ROWE, JOE LAPPIN and LIAM MCGING with the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) in 2014-15 as well. • The longest tenured pair became teammates again years later, as senior DREW NEWMEYER and graduate senior ROBBIE BAILLARGEON played together from 2011-13 with the Indiana Ice (USHL). • The obvious duo on the roster is brothers BRINSON and STEEN PASICHNUK, who played with the Bonnnyville Pontiacs (AJHL) from 2013-16.

five returning redshirt players who didn’t see the ice in 2015-16. • The freshmen class features GEORGY GORODETSKY, TYLER BUSCH, RILEY SIMPSON, BRETT GRUBER, STEENN PASICHNUK, JOEY DACCORD and BRINSON PASICHNUK. Defenseman JAKOB STRIDSBERG is also technically a freshman but due to NCAA Age Limit, he serves as a sophomore. • The five redshirts include captain DYLAN HOLLMAN, assistant captain LOUIE ROWE, redshirt sophomore JAKE MONTGOMERY, and redshirt juniors DAVID NORRIS and WADE MURPHY.
LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN, CAP’N! • Redshirt sophomore DYLAN HOLLMAN will wear the ‘C’ in his first season wearing the Maroon &
Gold. Head coach GREG POWERS raved about Hollman’s work ethic in 2015-16 season despite not having ice time to work for. • “His approach as a redshirt not playing in games, how much stronger he got, how he led in practice -- he was probably from start to finish the best player in practice every day. It’s tough when there’s no light at the end of the tunnel as far as minutes in games, so to be the best in practice every single day, you have to be dialed in. He brings it every day ... He leads by example. He’s a 4.00 student and he’s doing an incredible job so far.” • Hollman transferred from UMass-Lowell for a fresh start after suffering an injury in the first game of his freshman season. • In juniors with Spruce Grove (AJHL), Hollman totaled 50 goals and 34 assists in 167 games -nearly had a point-per-game average his final year.
DESERT CANADIANS • As their native snow birds do in the winter, nine Canadian-born players have found a home in
Arizona with the Sun Devils for winter. • The nine are spread across three provinces with the majority from western Canada -- five from Alberta, two from British Columbia and one from Saskatchewan. • Assistant coach ALEX HICKS is also from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
DRAFTED DEVILS • Three of the new Sun Devils were NHL draft picks within the past four years. • While freshman JOEY DACCORD was drafted prior to wearing the Maroon & Gold, he is officially
the first drafted player in Sun Devil Division I history as he was commited to ASU. DACCORD went 199th overall in the 7th round of the 2015 NHL Draft to the Ottawa Senators. • Graduate transfer ROBBIE BAILLARGEON was also drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 2012 NHL Draft in the 5th round and 136th overall. • Redshirt junior WADE MURPHY was selected 185th overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2013 NHL Draft. • 2017-18 signee PATRICK KUDLA was the most recent Sun Devil to be drafted, as he was selected 158th overall in the 6th round by the hometown Arizona Coyotes.

BRO-TATO CHIP • The Sun Devils have their first set of brothers on the roster, as BRINSON
and STEENN PASICHNUK come in as freshmen. • While having that brother connection can be instrumental on the ice, the two play separate positions with BRINSON on the blue line and STEENN a forward. • The two also look nearly nothing alike, as STEENN stands tall at 6-foot-4 and BRINSON at a solid 6-foot. • Entering the 2016 NHL Draft, BRINSON was rated as the top defenseman in the draft out of the AJHL.
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION • The first two games against #9 Notre Dame will be accessible via
NBCSports.com and through the NBCSports App for Android and iPhone users. • The Sun Devils will also have five other games televised nationally, including three on the Pac-12 Network over the next month -- Oct. 16 vs. Air Force, Oct. 28 vs. #12 Harvard and Nov. 4 vs. #11 Michigan. • ASU will also be featured on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app against Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 12 p.m. (AZT). • For all Sun Devil fans in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, South Dakota, Wyoming and Utah, they’ll have the chance to watch our match-up with #3 Denver on Jan. 6 on Altitude Sports 2.
WE’VE GOT THE POWERS Coach Powers enters his ninth overall season on the Sun Devil Coaching
Staff and his second as Head Coach of ASU’s NCAA Division I Hockey program. In his first year as head coach, he led the team to a 10-23-5 in 2015. During the 2013-14 season, Coach Powers helped guide the Sun Devils to their first-ever ACHA Division I National Championship. He holds a 174-50-14 career record at ASU, and his team ended the 2014-2015 season ranked #3 in the ACHA with a 35-4-1 record qualifying for the team’s third-straight ACHA Division I Final Four. Since taking the reigns as head coach, Greg has also coached eight ACHA Div. I All-Americans and 15 ACHA Academic AllAmericans. Coach Powers has helped lead Sun Devil Hockey to five consecutive ACHA National Tournament appearances, starting with his first year as head coach in 2010. In 2012-13, he led ASU to a new program best record and first ever 30plus win season with a record of 35-8-1, its first ever Final Four Appearance, first ever National Ranking of #1, and a benchmark win over NCAA DI Penn State. During the 2013-2014 season, ASU Hockey won the ACHA DI National Championship, with Powers named ACHA DI National Coach of the Year. The Sun Devils were also named WCHL Conference Champions both for 2013-2014 and 2014-2015, and Powers was named WCHL Coach of the Year for 20132014. Powers was also named an ACHA Division I National Coach of the Year finalist in 2012-13 and 2014-15. Himself a Sun Devil, Powers graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism in 1999 and was inducted into the ASU Hockey Player Hall of Fame in in 2009. Collegiately, Greg was a three-time ACHA Division I All-American Goaltender while playing for the Sun Devils under the tutelage of Hall of Fame Head Coach Gene Hammett. The Sun Devils qualified for three national championships during Powers’ four-season collegiate career, and he was named Team MVP for the 1996-1997 and 1997-1998 seasons.
