NW2001 - WEAVER M. TO LIVERPOOL LIME STREET RUNCORN ICI Lt d, high t ension cables. Extra high t ension cabtes are laid on the up and down sides of the running lines. T he cables are laid underground on the up side of the Runcorn Dock branch, crossing under the line behind Runcorn down platform. Other cables are attached to the parapet wall of the viaduct and to the main girders of Runcorn bridge on t he down side. T hese cables are charged wit h elect ricit y danger ous t o lif e and t hey must on no account be int erf ered wit h. Ifs fire is observed by any member of staff in the vicinity of the cables or anyt hing denot ing possible danger to them, the signaller at Runcorn signal box must be advised in order that ICI Ltd and the Electricity Authority may be advised. Only sand should be used in dealing with a fire on, or in t he vicinity of high t ension cables and it must be t hrown on from a distance so as to avoid contact bet ween the person and the cable or t oughing. W hen an assurance has been received from ICI Ltd, and the Electricity Authority that the cables have been made dead, wat er may be used to ext inguish a fire.

NW2001 - WEAVER JN. TO LIVERPOOL LIME STREET LIVERPOOL LIME STREET If a plat f orm st art ing s ignal f ails the posit ion light signal beneat h it will be used to start a depart ing passenger train. T he driver must be instructed not to proceed until aut horised to do so by the person in charge of the platform, who must first obtain permission from t he signaller. S hunt ing movement s f rom s idings A, B, D and E. I f platforms 1, 4, 5 or 7 are occupied, no shunt ing movement must be made from sidings A, B, D or E, respectively. Shunt ing. Before a train is propelled on to the shunt ing neck, the cont inuous brake must be released. T he locomot ive must always be attached to vehicles propelled from the platforms or sidings, and must not be uncoupled until t hey are brought to a stand in the posit ion required. When a locomot ive is st anding at the Lime Street end of any coaches, or a light locomot ive alone, on the shunt ing neck, a red light must be exhibit ed on the up side. In the case of two or more locomotives, a red light must be exhibit ed on the one nearest Lime Street. No movement s must be made on to or from the shunt ing neck or main lines wit hout a shunt er in charge. A train on the shunt ing neck must not be moved t owards Lime Street to stand at t he signal at the t rap points, but must wait until t he signal is cleared. T elephones at signals. Rule Book Module S4, Sect ion 2, Clause 2.1.b). Drivers of trains brought to a stand at signals LS.5 and LS.6 must advise the signaller immediately. NW2009 - ARPLEY JN. TO DITTON EAST JN. Fiddlers Ferry Power Station SB Set t ing-back Movement s f rom t he up goods line. An 'OFF' indicat or is provided in associat ion with signal No.36, which may be used to assist set-back movements from t he up goods line. F iddlers Ferry Power St at ion. Rule Book Modules 11,11, M2 and PI must be carried out as far as t hey can be applied. Whilst the train is inside the power station sidings all movement s from signal SA to signals S3B and S3C, as well as signals S78 and 57C, are under the control of the Power Station Cont roller, who can be contacted by means of t he signal post t elephones. From signals 54B and S4C to signals S14B and S1 4C the t rain will be under the cont rol of 'creep' signals operat ed by the Track Hopper Controller, locat ed in t he Hopper House. Cont rolled posit ion light signals FF.5 and FF.6, locat ed beneat h signals S13B and S13C, are under the control of the signaller at Fiddlers Ferry Power Station signal box and are provided with signal post telephones. The clearance of 'creep' signals S l3B and S13C is not an authority to pass signals FF.5 and FF.6 at danger and signals FF.5 and FF.6 must be cleared bef ore a train can proceed Running movement s wit hin the power station sidings must not exceed 15 mph, set t ing-back movement s must not exceed 5 mph. Drivers must advise the Power Station Cont roller by t elephone, if a train is det ained at Signal SA. I f further det ained, the Driver must repeat the call at intervals of not more than 5 minutes. Drivers must bring their trains to a stand at signals S3B or C posit ioned at the rear of the gross weighbridge whet her or not the signal concerned has been cleared. W hen instructed to proceed, the speed of the train must not exceed m p h . Drivers must again bring their trains to a stand at the 'Stop and Await Instructions' board locat ed at signal S5B or C at the entrance to the Coal Track Hopper House. whet her or not the signal concerned has been cleared, and await permission to proceed. When permission is given by the Track Hopper Cont roller to ent er the Hopper building, the train must be drawn f orward at a speed not exceeding % mph, subject to the observance of any 'creep' signal indicat ions on the discharge track, unt il the whole of the train is clear of the empty weighbridge. A series of 'creep' indicators display five horizont al whit e lights when in the stop posit ion and five vert ical whit e light s in the proceed posit ion and are posit ioned to control movement s through the discharge area. (In t he case of signals S13B and C and 514B and C, only three horizontal or three vertical whit e lights are provided). W hen a st op indicat ion is displayed, the driver must immediat ely bring the train to a stand and not run forward to the next signal. Should it be necessary for a train which has just passed t hrough the Hopper to set-back, a blue letter 'X' will be displayed, visible to the driver looking forward only, and all ot her indicat ions will be ext inguished. W hen the train is required to stop setting-back, the let t er 'X' will be ext inguished and the horizont al stop aspect will be displayed and the driver must immediat ely stop the train. When a brake van is provided, the guard must remain in the brake van whilst passing t hrough the discharge area. The wagon doors are opened and closed aut omat ically as the wagons pass over the coal hopper. However, should any doors remain open after passing t hrough the discharge plant, the Rolling Stock T echnician should bring the t rain to a stand by operat ion of the 'creep' indicators and raise the doors by means of the pull lifts. In the event of a def ect ive vehicle being found. the Rolling Stock T echnician will contact the signaller at Fiddlers Ferry Power Station signal box and inform the signaller of the posit ion of the defective vehicle on the train. On the arrival of the train at the semaphore signals on eit her road 2 or road 1, cont rolled by Fiddlers Ferry Power Station signal box, the guard must advise the signaller by t elephone of the dest inat ion of the train. The signaller must t hen advise the guard whet her or not t here are any 'crippled' wagons on the train to be det ached in the cripple wagon sidings. The provisions of Rule Book Module T M , Sect ion 6 do not apply to trains depart ing from t he power station sidings. During a failure of the signalling and associat ed equipment within the power station sidings the f ollowing act ion must be taken, 1. F ailure of signals/ indicat ors. Drivers must advise the power station cont roller, by t elephone, of the posit ion of their trains. 2. F ailure of t elephones. The driver or guard, if provided, must proceed to t he Powergen Cont rol Office (top floor) which is locat ed adjacent to track B beyond the gross weighbridge and inf orm the Controller. If a t elephone is encount ered on route, this may be used providing the Power Station Cont roller is made fully aware of the situation and the posit ion of the train. 3. Fiddlers Ferry Power Station SB F iddlers F erry FGD (F lue Gas Discharge) sit e The FGD sit e consists of a Loading Line, Engine Release Line and a Cripple Siding which are an extension of the Cripple Siding Line at F iddlers Ferry Signal box. A n FGD site Person In Charge (PIC) is appoint ed by the F iddlers Ferry signaller. The FGD sit e PIC is responsible for aut horising all movement s wit hin the FGD site and any movement s into it. Met hod of working Provided that PIC status has not already been granted, t he F iddlers Ferry signaller may signal one movement into the site. The Shunter, or Driver of an unaccompanied movement, must contact the signaller and be grant ed the FGD site PIC status. T he signaller will give the FGD site PIC det ails of any vehicles within the FGD site. N o further movements into the FGD site must be made until permission has been obt ained fiorn t he FGD site PIC. If a traction unit or vehicles are st abled in the FGD site, t he Designat ed Person, Shunter, or Driver of an unaccompanied movement, must first contact the F iddlers Ferry signaller and eit her become the FGD sit e PIC or get authority from an exist ing EGO site PIC bef ore making any movements. On leaving the FGD site, t he PIC must contact the F iddlers Ferry signaller and give up t heir FGD site PIC status. T hey must give the signaller details of any vehicles left in the F G D site.

Except in an emergency the driver of the train locomot ive must not apply traction power nor interfere with the braking of the train during the drawback movement. T he brake continuity test must be carried out by the driver of the t rain locomot ive bef ore depart ure from the sidings. The drawback locomotive must return to the MSC sidings and must closely f ollow the depart ing train but must not pass signal W N. 218 until it has returned to danger and again been cleared. The person in charge at Arpley Yard and the U N person in charge (C&W-PIC) must come to a clear underst anding of what is required bef ore any movement is aut horised to or from the C&W sidings. All movement s proceeding t owards the C&W sidings must be brought to a stand at the 'St op and Obtain permission to proceed' board. The C&W-PIC must ensure that the derailer is removed from the rail and all staff are clear of the line bef ore giving permission for the movement to enter the sidings. W hen all movement s have been completed, t he C&W-PIC must ensure that t he derailer is replaced on t he rail and padlocked bef ore allowing staff to resume work in the sidings.

Before making any movement from the arrival line towards the headshunt , t raincrews must ensure that no conflicting movement is being made by the private sidings shunt ing locomotive. The driver or shunter must obtain the permission of the person in charge of the sidings before aut horising any movement from t he headshunt towards the private sidings. The signaller at Manchester Piccadilly signal box will not allow a second train to ent er the sidings until the driver or shunt er of the first t rain has confirmed that all vehicles in the sidings are at a st and and that it is safe for the second train to enter the sidings. The SPT at signal MR540 must be used to speak to the signaller.

Up T rains. On arrival at the 'Stop. Press Plunger. Obtain white light and whist le bef ore proceeding' board t he driver must ensure that t he yellow points indicat or light is illuminat ed. The guard must unlock the cupboard beneat h the 'Stop' board and, provided the indicat or in the cupboard is showing 'Line Clear', must operat e the plunger to start the level crossing warning light sequence. The guard must relock the cupboard and rejoin the locomot ive, then, provided the flashing whit e light is illuminat ed and the yellow points indicat ion light is still illuminat ed, the train may proceed to signal ML.62. If the flashing whit e tight is not exhibited, the driver must not proceed over the crossing until the PIC has arranged for British Transport Police assistance to stop road traffic.
