Newsletter – 20th October 2016 Dear Parents and Carers, This week we have been thinking about the value of empathy. A wonderful way that we as a school community can demonstrate the value of empathy is through supporting our shoebox collection. Last year we collected over 60 boxes that were given to children across Europe. This year as a school we are again supporting Operation Christmas Child a project of Samaritan’s Purse. Their website is www.samaritans-purse.org.uk/what-we-do/operationchristmas-child/ This is a fantastic opportunity for us as a school to show love and kindness for children that wouldn’t have any gifts or presents at Christmas time. We are asking each family to consider making up a shoebox. Everything you will need to know to be able to pack a box is included in the leaflet that your child will bring home tonight (it will be one leaflet per family). Operation Christmas Child request a donation of £3 per shoebox to cover the shipping costs. This can be included with your shoebox or paid online. We have a small number of ready-made shoe boxes in school that can be collected from Mrs Cooper. We are encouraging the children to write a small letter to go inside their box. The deadline for boxes being brought back to school is Monday 7th November. Many thanks in anticipation of your support of this project. Dinner Changes Please be aware of the changes to dinner menu for Week 1 W/C 31st October.
Tuesday 1st November – Fish Fingers, Chips, Peas, chocolate pudding and custard
Friday 4th November – Bonfire Night Themed Menu – Hot Dog, jacket wedges, baked beans, sticky toffee pudding and custard. The new winter menu has now be added to our website. Attendance Awards Congratulations to Class 1 and Class 3 for being this week’s winners. Overall attendance across all classes was excellent at 97.2%. KS1

Upcoming Football Matches We have the following upcoming football matches for selected children in Year 5 & 6: Thursday 3rd November – Wadsworth Primary (AWAY) Tuesday 8th November – College House Junior (HOME) Sports Hall Athletics The Sports Hall Athletics competition at George Spencer Academy will take place on Tuesday 1st November. Children that are participating in this competition have been notified by Mr Thompson.
Friends of Trowell School The FOTS AGM will be on Tuesday 1st November 2016 at 8pm at the Festival Inn. FOTS do a fantastic job of both building community here at Trowell C of E Primary and raising valuable funds for the school. EVERYONE is invited to come along and get involved in FOTS this year.
Half term School is also closed to children tomorrow for an INSET day. We do hope that you have a good break over half term. We return to school on Monday 31st October. Best regards, D Goddard Mr Goddard
