THE SERIES: NJCU leads 1-0. This is the first meeting in Jersey City. LAST MEETING: September 2, 2008 in Lancaster, PA. NJCU won, 4-3. Nicole Sarica had one goal and two assists. CASERES NAMED NJAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: For the second consecutive week to open the 2009 season, Julia Caseres has been named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week. She had a remarkable 10 goals, seven assists and 27 points in four games. NJCU won all four contests, including the title of the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raider Classic on September 12. It was the first tournament championship NJCU has won in the 17-year history of the program. Caseres, who leads the NJAC in every conceivable offensive category, including goals (13), assists (8) and points, was named Tournament MVP. Today, Caseres was named the ECAC Division III Offensive Player of the Week. One award is given weekly from among all Division III women’s soccer-sponsoring schools on the east coast under the ECAC umbrella. NCAA STATISTICAL RANKINGS: As a team, NJCU currently ranks 12th in Division III among 427 schools in scoring offense at 4.56 goals per game. Caseres leads the nation in total goals, ranks third in points per game, seventh in goals per game and 12th in assists per game. Ashley Cunha, NJCU’s #2 scorer, is 24th nationally in points per game and 45th in goals per game.
