Nursery Teacher Pack – 11.26.17 Proverbs – Contentment

Last Week Review

One of the best ways to serve God is to serve those in need. Notice the people who often go unnoticed. Love them, care for them, and treat them with respect. He who was rich became poor so that those of us who were poor might become rich in Christ.

BIG IDEA: We can be content without too much or too little because God provides exactly what we need.

This Week’s Lesson

ACTION: Ask for just what you need; not more, not less. GOSPEL: God provides us with everything we need in Jesus.

Word of the Week

Needful - just enough

Scripture

Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me. Proverbs 30:8b

Prayer

Lord, you are all that we need. Please forgive us when we ask for too much or complain when we think we have too little. Thank you for providing for us. Please help us to be content. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Welcome Activity

Just Enough Supplies: Ping pong balls, baskets to fill with balls Set up three empty containers. As each child comes in, they get a ping pong ball to put into a container. Teacher explains that today we are going to learn about how God provides just enough for our needs. As the children fill the containers, make sure one is too full, one is too empty, and one is just right. Ask children to identify which container has just enough, which one has too much, and which one has not enough.

Family Discussion

Talk about the difference between wants and needs. What are some things that you want and what are some things that you need? Remind each other to ask God to provide what is needful.

Activity

Movement activities are important to allow the kids to learn the lesson in a tactile way. It also helps toddlers get their wiggles out so they can focus better in other areas of class.

Instructions

Have the kids sit on one side of the room and tell them that they are going to pick up the ping pong balls and fill each container “just enough” because we want God to provide us with “just enough”. Dump the ping pong balls on the floor in front of them and say ready, set, go! Kids will grab the balls and fill each container as fast as they can. If they overfill one, mention that God provides just enough and if we have too much then we share with a container that is less filled.

To keep toddlers’ attention, give them one step of the craft to do at a time. Wait until they have completed one step before giving them the next. If they are not interested in doing the craft today, be sure to send it home so they can complete it there.

Placemats Remind the children that God will provide what is needful. □ 11x17 Printout □ Contact paper □ Decorative Supplies (If you have something specific you would like and it is not in your classroom ask the supervisor and we will get it to you if it is available.) 1. Decorate the placemat as desired. 2. If time allows help the kids put on the contact paper. If not send the contact paper home with the kids so that the parents can help.
