Message from the Head We were very pleased to achieve the Green Flag Eco-school award. This is the national Eco-school top award which recognises schools which embed environmental sustainability into the curriculum and how the school runs. It also recognises how we educate the children to value their community and to be active in improving it through tolerance for others, litterpicking and using energy wisely to save money and not cause unnecessary pollution. There are not many schools in the country getting this award these days and it is a mark of how we at Mulgrave provide our children with a well-rounded education. For more details of the Eco-school organisation please see www.eco-schools.org A big thanks to all parents and families who contributed so generously to the Nepal earthquake disaster fund. We raised £264.73 We donated it to Save The Children so that we knew it would be used directly to help families in need. The members of our Nepalese community have asked me to pass on their sincere thanks to everyone who contributed. This is another great example of how people at Mulgrave pull together when things are tough. I have been very impressed at how well Year 6 children and staff have held up during the SATs week. As we all know, nobody can perform well in a test if they are too stressed and so I was pleased to see everyone calmly getting on with things. Whatever the test results, I can’t complain about a lack of commitment from everyone. I would like to thank everyone for their individual effort and teamwork during this challenging week and for the hard work leading up to it. In recent weeks all classes have been planting and growing vegetables. If there are any parents or other family members who would like to help with this, please contact the school. I hope you have a nice break with your children and look forward to seeing them back for the final part of the summer term.

School Council Beanbags Children have requested bean bags for their book corner in class, just like the ones in the studio. Unfortunately, these do cost about £40 each, so it is very hard for the school to purchase them for every class. Dr Dixon did wonder if there were any parents or relatives that have sewing skills and felt they could volunteer to make some for the school. Parents There has been a request from the parents for a suggestion box so they can put forward ideas and suggestions to the school through the School Council. The labelled box is situated in the Foyer and will be emptied on a Monday morning each week, ready for the School Council on Monday lunchtime. Mrs Gorman & School Council

Parental Engagement Survey We would like to thank all of those parents who took their time in responding to a survey on parental engagement that went out at the end of February. The majority of the parents responded by offering to support the school in different ways such as accompanying children on school trips, supporting children during school time as well as afterschool clubs and activities. The parents have also provided us with great suggestions on how to make Mulgrave Primary School a better place for parental engagement. We are looking forward to putting these suggestions in place! YEAR 3 3 Dolphin and 3 Penguin have had a very interesting half term which has included Science Investigation Day, Shape Investigation Fortnight and an Army Morning. Thank you to all the parents who have supported our work on the Iron Man, here is a picture with just some of the amazing creative projects we've had brought in. The children have really enjoyed the story and we've had some great fun writing our own newspaper reports. We also had a great time at the National Maritime Museum where the children took part in an adventure to solve mysteries within the museum's hidden collections as well as take part in a mapping activity looking at locating different artefacts on a walkable world map. We very much enjoyed our visit from the army to discuss healthy breakfasts and take part in an army workout session. We ended up having class race and 3 Dolphin won. Next term we are taking part in a £5 challenge for enterprise week as well as starting a brilliant English project looking at creating our own films and writing about them. Ms Golding and Mr Calnan

Message From The Deputy Head Dear Parents The summer term is halfway through and soon we will be looking forward to July and children will be thinking about the new year groups they will be joining. This is a really important time as teaching staff will be nurturing and challenging them to achieve and exceed their goals. As always, you are vital to this. Please support us in ensuring your child succeeds. If you would like to find out ways we and you can support your child further, please meet with your class teacher and where necessary, arrange an appointment with the Senior Leaders. Finally, if you can think of ways to help improve our school, please let us know either in person or dropping a suggestion in the parent suggestion box. Ms Choudhury 3
