Parts & Service Communicator Subject: Flomatic DC to AC Solenoid Coil Change SYMPTOM Servicing older Flomatic valves with DC solenoid and changing them over to the newer AC solenoid.
SCOPE Manitowoc Beverage Equipment changed the Flomatic solenoid coil used in 464GP valves in 2007. The new solenoid can be used in any 424, 324, 454, or 464 series Flomatic valve as a field replacement. The new solenoid will fit into the same bolt pattern as the existing solenoid. • The new solenoid is controlled by Alternating Current. The AC solenoid will pull the armature in as effectively as the current DC solenoid. After energizing, the AC solenoid uses much less power to hold the armature. By using less power, there is less heat build up for a cooler operating solenoid. • The new solenoid is physically larger in diameter than the current solenoid. This is because the bobbin of the coil is larger. Current AC Solenoid
• The duty cycle rating of the new solenoid is higher than previous components. Field tests confirm assurance the solenoid will be able to operate in virtually any application.
ACTION Switch assemblies will not interchange. The mounting pins on top of the new solenoid are further apart than the pins of the current style solenoid. Previous DC Solenoid

Flomatic DC to AC Solenoid Coil Change
FLO-014 4/10
ACTION (con’t) There are changes that must be made when installing the new solenoid onto a current valve. The overall physical size of the solenoid has increased (larger coil). This translates into the switch housing being higher on the new solenoid. When installing the new solenoid into a current housing, the lever retainer cap or push button font cover (GP style) will need to be changed. The new levers and covers are retrofittable to valves currently in the field. Attached is a chart showing what kits are necessary to convert to the new solenoid.
