BOE to consider calendar
Bell recommends calendar for 2015-16 year Elbert County School Superintendent Chuck Bell has recommended a calendar for the 2015-2016 school year and the school board is expected to act on the calendar in two weeks. Bell made his recommendation Monday night in the Elbert County BOE work session at the board office. “Over 50 percent of the school staff voted for this calendar,” said Bell, who distributed three different calendars for the staff to choose from. “This will be the calendar I will ask the board to approve.” The school board will meet in regular session Monday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the BOE office.
The school calendar presented by Bell Monday night has 180 days of instruction for students and 190 work days for teachers. On the calendar is a start date of Aug. 3, 2015 for the students and the last day of school for the students will be May 20, 2016. School will be closed during the entire week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 23 through Nov. 27) and students will not be in class during the Christmas Holiday beginning on Saturday, Dec. 19 and running through Jan. 4. Students will return after the Christmas Holiday on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016.

Elbert County Athletic Department provides free athlete physicals in partnership with EMH, Athens Tech and The Medical Center of Elberton ATHLETES should see coaches or athletic office personnel for forms, instructions and times.
