Getting Started • Prayer honors God and asks for his help. Read Matthew 6:9-13 • Tell about a time that you didn’t follow directions. How did that work out for you?
Grow 1. What stood out to you from this week’s sermon? As we study this passage on prayer, read it from the perspective of one trying to pull out all of the content and truth as you are trying to help someone (child, nonbeliever, new believer, etc.) understand who God is and the basics of prayer. 2. Read and discuss Matthew 6:9. This is a short verse, but there are several distinct thoughts and truths Jesus is trying to convey to us. 3. Read and discuss Matthew 6:10. How does this verse address yielding before God? 4. Read and discuss Matthew 6:11. 5. Read and discuss Matthew 6:12. What are the two relationships being addressed here? Read verses 14 & 15. How seriously does God take forgiveness? Why? 6. Read and discuss Matthew 6:13. 7. What have you learned from this study that you can use in your prayer life? 8. If you have time left, please set aside the remainder of your time for prayer.
Prayer | Matthew 6:9-13 “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
