PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING I hope you have some exciting plans for our Spring Break during the upcoming week. Please encourage your children to read a few good books over the break; especially if our fickle weather is forgetting it’s Spring. Relax, refresh and enjoy our time off so that we are all ready to work hard for the remaining 28 days of school left this year. The math portion of our PARCC testing will continue when we return from Break. Myself, Ms. Martini and our teachers are proud of the effort from our 3rd--6th grade students

[email protected] Dental Exam Forms Reminder that many 2nd & 6th grade students have not turned in their mandatory dental exams forms. These are mandated by the State of Illinois. Spring Break, which will be here shortly, would be a great time to take care of this requirement. Next year’s 6th graders will be receiving a mailing regarding the 6th grade State dental and physical requirements.

WORDS OF WISDOM Happy Friday, Panthers and Parents! The theme for the month of April is “Building Courage and Character.” This week we focused on honesty. Ellen DeGeneres says, “Here are the values that I stand for: honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values." Being honest requires courage because it makes us vulnerable and accountable. To avoid stepping on the feelings of others with our honesty also requires tact. Clearly, being truly honest involves more than just telling the truth in every situation, but for people of integrity it is the only acceptable choice. Here are a few practical strategies to help you fine tune your efforts to develop the courage to be both honest and tactful. 1. Think before you speak. 2. Say what you mean and mean what you say. 3. Simplify your statements so that everyone clearly understands your message. 4. Tell it like it is rather than sugarcoating it. 5. Present both sides of each issue to engender objectivity. 6. If you have a personal bias or a conflict of interest, make it known. 7. Tell people the rationale behind your decisions so that your intent is understood. 8. If something is misinterpreted, quickly correct the record. 9. Don’t shoot the messenger when someone tells you the truth. Thank them for their honesty and treat the information provided as a gift. 10. Willingly accept responsibility by admitting a mistake or an error in judgment — in a timely fashion. 11. Hold people accountable when their words do not match their actions. 12. Never compromise your integrity and reputation by associating yourself with people whose standards of integrity you mistrust. Have a wonderful spring break, and remember to come to school next Monday prepared to Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Ready for class! With something to think about, this is Ms. Martini. Make it a great weekend – or not. The choice is yours!
BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE READY
