Things to know MAN IN MOTION Today’s player to watch: Landry Jones, OU quarterback All eyes will be on the redshirt freshman, who is not only the quarterback of the future, but the quarterback of now until Sam Bradford’s shoulder is healed. Jones needs this game to gain experience and develop confidence before the schedule toughens up again.

IN THE CROSSHAIRS Today’s players who will be tested: OU’s offensive line The test for the offensive line won’t be Idaho State; the test will be avoiding penalties and missed assignments, something this group had loads of last weekend. HOT READ Who is hot: Jimmy Stevens, OU kicker Stevens quietly had the best game in his young career, easily converting both field goal tries against Brigham Young. Overall, the kicking game appears to be much improved, especially in place-kicking, punting and kickoff coverage. HORSECOLLAR’D Who is not: Adron Tennell, OU wide receiver Big things were expected from the senior. But vs. BYU, Tennell only had two catches for 20 yards and had a couple of crucial drops. The Sooners need Tennell to emerge as a downfield threat. But if he can’t produce, it won’t be long before they turn to sophomore Dejuan Miller or freshman Jaz Reynolds. CLIPPINGS “Let this be a lesson to us all. The next time a school nears the top of the preseason charts because of a defending Heisman winner... let us look deeper. Let us ask what they have on the offensive line.” — Darren Everson, Wall Street Journal By Jake Trotter
