Materials needed: Body of stocking: 5/8 yard

Low-loft Batting: 2 pcs. at least 15” x 20”

Interior fabric: 5/8 yard

Coordinating thread (for this project allpurpose will work fine)

Cuff & Loop: 1/3 yard Temporary Adhesive Spray like 505 Tools needed: Sewing machine

Printer/paper

Fabric scissors & paper scissors

Loop turner (optional)

Iron/pressing surface

Quilt pins

Step 1: Print out stocking shape pattern. Lay pieces out and match paper edge to edge. Do not overlap. Secure with tape and then cut out the shape using paper cutting scissors. Set pattern aside.

Step 2: Cut two pieces of 15” x 20” out of the fabric for the body of the stocking. In this case, the reindeer fabric. Set aside. Take your interior fabric (muslin) and cut along the fold of your 5/8 yard piece. Step 3: Sandwich batting between the main body (reindeer) and the interior fabric (muslin) by first laying interior fabric wrong side up, then batting, then main fabric right side up.

Then, apply spray adhesive to each layer in between to keep all 3 pieces secure while quilting. Step 4:

Front

Step 5: After you have quilted each piece, trim each one along the edges of the main fabric (reindeer).

Back

Quilt each of your 2 quilt sandwiches by using a straight stitch on your machine. Lengthen the stitch between 3-4 before sewing. Quilt each piece in a simple way as shown, just going back and forth in straight lines, or practice your free motion skills with a more intricate design.

Step 6: Lay each quilted piece wrong sides together, lining up edges. Step 7: Lay pattern on top and secure with pins.

Step 8: Cut along edge of pattern. Make sure you have two pieces that mirror each other.

Step 9: Place cut out pieces right sides together and secure with pins. Stitch a 3/8” seam allowance along the edges from one side to the other, leaving the top edge open. Never sew over pins!

Step 10: Cut a piece out of the cuff fabric (red) into a 10” x 18.25” piece. Cut a piece 2” x 8” for the loop (set aside). For the cuff, fold the 18.25” length in half wrong sides out and secure with pins on the side opposite of the fold. Stitch 3/8” along the edge , press the seam open, then carefully fold one end up on itself to create the cuff. Step 11: To make the loop, fold in half lengthwise, wrong sides out, and sew along the long edge 1/4”. Turn out using a loop turner and press seam, making sure the seam is in the center of the loop.

Step 12: Fold loop in half, making sure the seam is on the inside. Pin raw edge of folded loop to the top edge of the stocking at the seam that is on the same side as the heel. Stitch close to edge to secure.

Step 13: Match cuff raw edges to top edges of stocking. Match cuff seam line to the same seam line the loop is on. Cuff should go around entire top of stocking. Pin in place and stitch 3/8” down from the top edge 3/8”. Check as you stitch to make sure you are sewing through all layers. The bulk of the layers may shift as you sew so just go slowly and check periodically.

Step 14: Turn your stocking out and you’re all done! Now hang your stocking and get ready for the Christmas mayhem that will begin soon!
