QUILTERS’ CORNER NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2016 9792 B BUSINESS PARK DRIVE, SACRAMENTO, CA 95827 916-366-6136 website:quilterscornersac.com
Today, as I write this page, it is projected to be the hottest day so far this year, a mere 104 degrees! My suggestion is to stay in, stay hydrated, and make friends with your sewing machine again. We have a summer filled with great classes and activities, including Tori Johnson, a certified Judy Niemeyer instructor, doing “Arizona Cactus” and Linda Ballard back to teach “Dancing with the Stars”. Come in and take a look at the samples and get inspired. OPEN HOUSE is scheduled for Sunday June 26th, Noon-4:00pm. Come in and meet the teachers, see the new samples, have some goodies and enjoy the fine company of fellow quilters! By the time you receive this newsletter, we will be home from our annual Tahoe camp. If you did not get in this year, don’t forget next year! Also on the horizon are a couple of retreats in Auburn, August 12-14th and September 19-23rd. Last, but not least, is our PIQF bus trip on October 15 th. Soon afterwards River City Guild will be having their show, November 18-20th. Put these dates on your calendar so you don’t miss anything. As many of you know, here at Quilters’ Corner, we started with 13 original owners. Among our favorites was Jeannette McCurry. At age 77, she opened Quilters’ Corner where she worked and taught until 2013. She passed on April 8th, 2016 and will be sorely missed by us all. Every time I see a stained glass quilt, I think of Jeannette’s passion and enthusiasm for quilting. You might have noticed that we have a penchant for reproduction fabrics at Quilters’ Corner. Elaine loves and uses 1930’s fabrics frequently and many of the rest of us work in the 1800’s medium. As a direct result, we have a large inventory of pre-Civil War fabrics. Recently we acquired Di Ford’s new line from Quiltmania’s “Primarily Quilts”. It is from Andover and is called “Giggleswick Mill”. The colors are different from most 1800’s fabrics as they reflect a prior era closer to the 1790’s. The prints include a pillar print, as well as, beautiful wavy stripes in three colorways. They have a lot of detailing on the backgrounds including picotage. The dyes are softer and clearer, reminiscent of the French Chintzes of the 17-18th century. You have to come and see them for yourselves, they are fantastic! Do not forget our extensive collection of batiks, novelties and children’s prints. We already have a great selection of Halloween fabrics and Christmas is knocking at our door. Be on the lookout for the latest edition of two of our favorite designers: Madame Rouge by French General for Moda and Blue Barn Prints by Edyta Sitar’s Laundry Basket. Yum! Hope to see you soon!! Elaine, Pat, Carol, Pam, Dawn, Diane, Donna, Lindsay, Ellen, Patty, Debbie, Diane, Jean , Chris, Gerri and Paula
